A lot of the Melee tournament people have a hard time adjusting to Brawl's different feel. Melee was quick paced; Brawl is noticebly slower. Plus...tripping. D*** tripping! Many of them will play Brawl (and most like it), but most prefer Melee > Brawl for tournaments.

I joined the tourny scene too late to be of any quality compared to most people in the professional league. I'm good...just not as good as most. Not a big fan of the "advanced" techs that are used either. It caused such a huge gap between the top tier (best) and bottom tier (worst) characters in the game that I couldn't stand playing tourny level.

Add in the fact that the characters I enjoyed playing the most were closer to the bottom than the top and I didn't have much reason to go pro. Luigi is my best in Melee and he was middle tier at best. Samus was the highest character on the tier list that I could stand playing (and I was good with her) but Luigi was my best. Emphasis on "was". When Brawl came out, Luigi changed for me...(most likely because wavedashing was cut from Brawl and it was what made Luigi so much fun to play.) I can still play him, just not as well as I could in Melee. Made me mad...

Lucas is my best now.

The sad thing is that I feel the same way about it. A lot of techs are bugs or use the bugs to some degree. There are a couple legit tricks that you can use, but it takes a lot of practice. A lot of time I wasn't willing to put into the game. I got a job to maintain...don't have time to become "leet" with my skills.

From what I hear, Sonic is middle tier. Haven't seen any official tier lists, but I hear about 50/50 about him. Biggest complaint I know of is his attack speed. You'd think that a character with the reputation of "fastest thing alive" would have fast attack speed. He runs fastest, no questions there, but a lot of his attacks are slow/laggy.
