Parents who won't vaccinate their kids should study a little history. Look at how many people died or were permanently handicapped in the past from
things like TB, measles, mumps, scarlet fever and polio.
If those diseases make a comeback, guess whose offspring will be the first to get sick?
The protection from deadly disease should outweigh the TINY chance for autism.

How did tinfoil mommy's children get into school without the required vaccinations?
The problem is, the current crop of dumbass mommies and daddies don't remember what a measles epidemic looked like and how many kids died, or the fear of swimming pools and other public places every summer before polio vaccine. |

I think it's polio that I didn't get. Which one makes the big ugly scar on your arm? That's what I never got. It wasn't mandatory and I think
my mom was really busy or something. I bet I only went to the doctor four times from birth to 21.

I heard on the news this morning that Measles is making a big comeback. Whooping Cough is also on the rise, because so many parents aren't vaccinating any
more.

The big scar is the small pox vaccine, which children don't get anymore because thanks to vaccinations, small pox has been irradicated (except some govts
keep it as a biological warfare agent).
Polio is an oral vaccine, so you wouldn't get a scar from that. People who don't get their kids vaccinated should be charged with child neglect. I've taken care of older people who had polio as a child, and it is very, very sad. If vaccines cause autism, why doesn't every child (or at least the majority) have autism. I think many kids are diagnosed with autism now to excuse poor behavior. My son's friend is 20 years old, and her mother just decided she has autism to excuse the fact that she's very shy and doesn't like to be in big crowds of people. Um, no, that's not autism. Even stupider, I have a pregnant sister in law who says she is not going to let the hospital give her baby the vitamin K injection after birth cause she's against vaccines. Hello idiot, vitamin K isn't a vaccine. And SWM, my shots don't hurt. Come to me for all your injection needs. I'm gentle. |

It was not mandatory when I started first grade. Kindergarden was not mandatory. i went but I don't think they checked you for vaccines then.
I remember getting a sugar cube from the school nurse. It was a vaccine. Maybe that was the polio one. |

The claim, one of 4,900 autism cases currently pending in Federal "Vaccine Court," was conceded by US Assistant Attorney General Peter Keisler and other Justice Department officials, on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services, the "defendant" in all Vaccine Court cases. The child's claim against the government -- that mercury-containing vaccines were the cause of her autism -- was supposed to be one of three "test cases" for the thimerosal-autism theory currently under consideration by a three-member panel of Special Masters, the presiding justices in Federal Claims Court. Keisler wrote that medical personnel at the HHS Division of Vaccine Injury Compensation (DVIC) had reviewed the case and "concluded that compensation is appropriate." The doctors conceded that the child was healthy and developing normally until her 18-month well-baby visit, when she received vaccinations against nine different diseases all at once (two contained thimerosal). Days later, the girl began spiraling downward into a cascade of illnesses and setbacks that, within months, presented as symptoms of autism, including: No
response to verbal direction; loss of language skills; no eye contact; loss of "relatedness;" insomnia; incessant screaming; arching; and
"watching the florescent lights repeatedly during examination."

Aren't the studies showing that autism is related to a predisposition that is triggered into being by overwhelming the body - whether by vaccines or
chemical/environmental contamination, or some unidentified source. Kids do get a huge amount of stuff pumped into them in at such early ages in those vaccines.
But, people forget or never realized how many kids were killed and incapacitated before vaccines. I'm sure there will be more and more out breaks of
illnesses like measles b/c of the number of parents choosing not to vax, and immigration/emmigration. Hopefully someday they'll pin down the exact
mechanism.
I'm sure my vaccines had nothing to do with my Asperger-ee fascination with hurricanes. ::or maybe it did, is there someone I can sue?:: |

So yes...there is evidence that vaccines can cause autism... Even if we accept that case as proof of anything, it's that THIMEROSAL could cause autism, NOT the immunizing agent. I think as a result of the all the hysteria about it, thimerosal has been removed from most vaccines except influenza. The US stopped immunizing for smallpox in 1972. |

But vaccines themselve are not needed if you live in an otherwise healthy and clean environment. YOUR kid lives in a clean and healthy environment because the rest of us vaccinate our kids.
