Both those groups can vote as they please in both shows. Popularity contest, 'member?

This show is part popularity contest, part dance competition. Popularity only carries people so far in this show. I didn't see the first season so I
can't comment on that, but * IMO * with the exception of Jerry Rice, the top 3 have all been good performers/dancers in the past seasons. Fun performers
like Cloris, Steve O, Marie, and Steve W will never win because as the competition loses celebs, the people voting start to move more towards those who can
dance and not those who just entertain. Plus, with less votes allowed, it's harder for the fun celebs to overcome bad judge scores.
I think this show would be very different (in the beginning) if only one vote per phone/email address were allowed. Someone's 10 votes for Steve O outweight my 2 votes for 5 other starsI want to see stay. I think this would cause the bad dancers to go out faster. Master P/Sarah Evans/Billy Ray would probably not have lasted as long and Sabrina may not have been booted so early. |

Does anyone know how Lacey or Chelsie got their jobs?I would guess they were recruited because of their preexisting fan bases & their youth. Many of the pros & their fans are older & I'm guessing ABC wanted to draw in the younger viewers. |

And. . . .
Because they held ballroom or latin titles. They are pros. |

Don't forget Emmitt, and Marie, and Jason, and Christian... (unless you were only talking about older seasons). Also, about Chelsie and Lacey getting the jobs on this show, I remember listening to an interview with Nigel Lythgoe (where he talked about ideal weights for dancers and such), and he said the producers of DWTS had contacted him and requested Chelsie as a dancer (or something to that effect). So they probably had an audition process, but I'm guessing they were sought out by the producers/recruiters directly because they are talented, and have proven they know how to work the cameras (I can imagine some pro dancers having difficulty with the whole television/personality aspect of the show). |

Hah! So unpopular contestants can win? Even when the final vote essentially renders the judges points moot? I wonder how the guy with less votes wins that,
hmmm....

meatball77 wrote:Pros competing on SYTYCD really shreds the credibility of that competition. And people complained about plants Smithson and Pacitti on Idol... None of those titles matter in comparison to the Mirror Ball Trophy, of course. There's a prize worth competing for.... and by competing, I mean, trying to get more popular with the viewers. |

Ugh, I hate team dance shit. Looks like it's Chuck, Shawn, and Melissa in one group and Jill, Kim, and Ty in the other. |

Screerider wrote: Eeh, half of the people on SYTYCD have professional experience and have since the first season and all of them have professional training (even if they pretend that they don't) it's what makes the routines able to be as great as they are with the two days that they have to rehearse. And they're not producing albums so their past success doesn't matter. |

Training is fine, and expected in a lot of cases.
National Championships? Not so much (that whole "undiscovered talent" aspect these shows hope to, uh, discover). Albums? Dance albums? WTF? |

I thought most SYTYCD dancers were professionals, especially the ballroom dancers. Benji, Lacey, Heidi, Dmitri, and Chelsie have all made it far in contests (or won, in some cases).

If they can't show Giles shirtless in the routine, they make sure to sneak in a shot of it in rehearsals

Hopefully it's like when Steve-O was out that one week. Melissa is the only one left I'm really pulling for.
