Yeah. Or Iron Chef, for that matter. Next Food Network Star brings voting in right at the end. I never said all shows with viewer voting were the same, nor shows without the same.

Certainly, fascist judging shows can also have the winners and losers fly in the face of what the show purports itself to be about, as well. It could be considered a popularity contest with a smaller pool. But there is a presumption that the judge(s) might have a teeeeeeeeeny bit more expertise on the subject of the show than the masses do.

What's interesting about those SYTYCD "winners" is how many of them are now competing on DWTS. So now that they've convinced the tweens they can dance (who apparently are geared toward voting for better dancing, who knew?), they now have to convince their moms (who apparently are geared toward voting for better entertaining(?)).

So, yes, there's a clear tweens versus moms difference in the shows. For some reason, I expected moms to have seen more ballroom dancing in their lives than tweens, but maybe they don't get out as much.
