I don't watch college football much, and the only game I watched parts of yesterday wasn't that one, lol.

I root for the Gamecocks but umm.. I hate, yes hate, FOOTBALL.
But let's talk baseball. Congrats Phillies! I'm National League all the way unless it's the Red Sox. I'm weird. |

Well since you're talking about football, I guess you're forcing me to tell you about my 7-year old son's team. They played for the championship
today and won 13-0. I can't believe how nerve-wracking it is to watch one of your children compete. The game was scoreless until there was just over two
minutes left in the game. Ray has been walking around with his trophy most of the day.

Smile everybody... we're back!
What's keeping your TV humming while the regular TV season takes a break? I'm finishing up S4 of:
1 more season to go. BRILLIANT TV. Just jaw-droppingly complex and layered. Other than it'll be DVD catch up time. I've even booked a day off work to marathon "Pushing Daisies" when it comes out in July :). Apparently a pie shop opened up not too far from me. Perfect-o.

Tell me more about The Wire. I could look it up, but I'd rather hear about it from you.

The Wire is excellent. Season 4 was my favorite. I'm trying to convince my husband to watch it. He's not into most cop shows, but he really
like Homicide: Life on the Street. The Wire is great because there's a theme or arc for every season and it takes the whole season to tell the story.
There are no filler episodes. It's kind of like reading a book. Each episode is like a chapter of the story. The episodes are not self-contained, so you
can't just watch one. The characters are well-written and realistic. There isn't too much black and white, but lots of shades of gray. Sometimes you
like the criminals even though they break the law and sometimes you find it hard to like the police.

What Cheyenie said.
Super complex show written with more authenticity than I've ever seen. The creator David Simon spent a year with the Baltimore PD Homicide division, Wikipedia does a decent summary: The Wire is an American television drama series set in Baltimore, Maryland, where it was also produced. Created, produced, and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002 and ended on March 9, 2008, with 60 episodes airing over the course of its five seasons. Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. They are, in order: the drug trade, the port, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals, and how whether you're a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge [or] lawyer, you are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution you've committed to." Despite never seeing large commercial success or winning any major television awards, The Wire has frequently been described by
critics as one of the greatest television series of all time. The show is recognized for
its realistic portrayal of urban life, artistic ambitions, and uncommonly deep
exploration of sociopolitical
themes.

unfortunately I already went through The Wire, Alias, Veronica Mars etc so now I have to be a little more creative.
I've been watching the Practice, its funny I've spent so much of my life cursing this damn show for beating the shows I like at the emmy's but now that I've actually sat down and watched its been pretty amazing. I decided after this season I wanted to see the show that gave Micheal Emmerson his first emmy, he doesn't show up till season five. Oh and Jacob shows up in season 7 as a con man and murderer. The show really has a lot of ties to Lost the female lead is borderline edgy (Kelli Williams) but also borderline annoying like Jack. The other lead(Dylan McDerment) is suppossed to be the center of the show but is such a terrible actor that it takes away from the over all quality of the show like Kate. I would say that all four or five of leads are somewhat irritating but the supporting characters are so good. The only character in the law firm that I found engaging through out the series is the wise beyond his years bald guy... so basically Locke. I'm also surprised at how much I enjoyed Lara Flynn Boyle on the show, before I only knew her at being the voice of the anorexic but she is a fantastic actress. Now I'm on Season 8 this week which was when the show redefined itself, fired half the cast and brought in James Spader. Spader really is like a combination of Alpert/Lapidous/Faraday injects the show with a lot of chemistry and snark. I can understand why he won 3 Emmy's for his role his character is just so bloody dense. |

Yeah he totlaly breathed new life into the show. It's clear why they created a spin-off around him and Shatner. A wise move.

unfortunately I already went through The Wire, Alias, Veronica Mars etc so now I have to be a little more creative.I feel ya. I've been through Alias, Veronica Mars, The 4400, nip/tuck, Dexter, Weeds, Californication, Lipstick Jungle, Ghost Whisperer, Roswell, Dead Like Me, Tru Calling, Bones, CSI:NY.. takes deep breath.. Profiler, Dirt, What About Brian, Brothers and Sisters, October Road and on and on... Now I'm waiting for new seasons to be released for the ones that are still airing. I got hooked on True Blood and the next season hasn't started yet! Grrr. Looks like the only DVDs out anytime soon are Weeds and Dollhouse. I got desperate enough to buy Secret Diary of a Call Girl a few months ago. If anyone wants to see this, do NOT buy it. I'll throw it at ya. You know what I'd DIE to own on DVD? COLD CASE!! Too bad there are so many issues with the music rights. *sad* |

International versions of the Mole, and South African Survivor seasons 1 and 2 This summer looks terrible for film, television, and books so I've basically dropped several shows at the beginning of the year(or in Life and Fringe's case all together) to save room for the summer. And if Big Brother sucks this year then I'm going to crack open Smallville or West Wing June - 1st week - Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles (I avoided all the episodes after the break when Sarah was shot) 2nd week - Dollhouse (I'm saving this from the awakening episode) 3rd week - Supernatural (I'm going to start this up from the dead brothers episode) 4th week - Pushing Daisies (I'm going to rewatch this from the beginning but I stopped after the circus/nun episodes) July 1st week - Friday Night Lights 2nd week - Fringe part 1 3rd week - Fringe part 2 4th week - Mentalist 5th week - Heroes August 1st week - Harsh Realm/John Doe/Profit 2nd week - Surface/Threshold 3rd week - Life part 1 4th week - Life part 2 |

I have some advice for you. The only season of Heroes worth watching is season one. The other seasons are terrible. Heroes was really a one-hit wonder.

Nods - I left out Twin Peaks. Check! Been there many times.
I agree with Cheyenie about Heroes. I own season one. That's it. I have seen all available seasons of Dexter. Damages sounds interesting. I don't know anything about SFU. I'm thinking of trying The Closer, too. I've seen a few episodes here and there and really liked it. I need to rob a bank. |

WOW! Does anyone in here feel like they watch wwaaaayyy to much t.v.?
My sister says Dexter is really good. I'll have to check out the Wire and Dexter if I get a chance. I think Sex in the City was the only show I saw all 6 seasons via DVD in order. Lost - I watched the first 4 seasons at ABC.com. I caught Alias and Sopranos first few seasons on DVD, but never finished. During the last season the only shows I watched on t.v. were American Idol, Prison Break, Desperate Housewives, and Lost (of course). I really liked The Riches when it was on, but it got pulled. Eddie Izzard is superb.

Remember our debate about leading women on tv? If you're looking for one that isn't defined by the man in her life The Closer is a good choice. Actually, Damages would be a good choice too. It has two great leading women. I need to find a show for the summer. Is the 4400 any good? |
