So these past several weeks have sucked. My knees have been popping and grinding, and god forbid I try to so much as walk down/up-hill. ("crap, whimper, pop"!) I run about five days a week, and it had started to hurt so bad that I decided that it wasn't so bad to be a pussy and stick to swimming. Especially after running one night and having my leg lock up on me, which caused me to fall on my head.
So I go to the doctor, Oprahberry withstanding, and I got diagnosed with Patello-Femoral Syndrome, which for me is a nice way of saying that I am now a gimp who has to go to rehab and wear ugly knee braces. And ugly shoes.
I already have some exercises that I am supposed to do because my quads and hamstrings are all jacked up, but I'm not supposed to be running anymore, I was recommended swimming and bicycling. I can't even do the elliptical, which everyone secretly knows is for the lazy soccer mommies with bleached teeth who are too pretty to deign break a sweat.
I really miss running, but maybe it's just not for me? Since I've taken it up a couple years ago, I've managed to do the following:
- run into mammoth cobwebs after taking a scenic "shortcut" (cutting through a neighbor's yard)
- crushed a toad and splattered my shoes with toad guts
- got a stress fracture earlier this year in my foot
- fell splat! on my face
- have PFS now
Is it time to give up or should I keep running again as a goal? WWLD? Oh, and the first person to respond with "omg wtf lol, do you have RUNNING SHOES?!" gets a kick in the face.
