It's not a case of the keyboard going bad - it's caused by the cats sitting on them, the dogs will come up and bump them, and even worse, plop their
entire heads on them. Their slobbery mouths and keyboards don't mix either. I'm not willing to risk a laptop having to be replaced. A keyboard is cheap
and easy to replace.

I love my laptop...for 850 bucks taxes in, which included the extended warranty, it's a fricking steal. I wish it had more RAM, but apparently its
expandable by another gig.
I'd say it'd be the way to go judging by what you use the computer for. The portability factor makes it easier to show off the pics and vids of the kid too. |

Get the laptop. I of course needed to get one for school, but I really don't think I'd ever get another desktop at this point. Especially considering
you said you won't be using it for much besides internet and pics, there's no question.

yep, three 75 pound dogs are a bit rough on everything, including my knees - my house has nothing breakable eblow the 4' line, but the dogs are totally
worth it

Seriously though, back to the pricing thing. The actual "computer" part of the desktop did seem to range around $500-$1000 - but Future Shop had
a full package that was generally twice as much - I think it included the extended warranty, Microsoft Products, and then I-don't-know what the fuck else.
Not sure why that would vary so drastically between computers though (aka a $1000 computer seemed to have $900 in add-ons, whereas the $500 had about $400 in
add ons)

He's not climbing yet, so I think I could keep the laptop away from him. I'm surprised this mouse is still working after him trying to grab it and run for his life |

dhc, look at the dell site and hp, and gateway, etc. you can get just what you want on a computer and not a lot of add ons.
are these computers that future shop makes? look at other stores too |

CBRetriever wrote: Why don't you get a rubber keyboard? I got one for 15 bux and it's awesome. Takes a few days to get used to the softer keys. No more
clickety-clakety noise from the keys either. I can run it under the tap if it ever gets gross and roll it up to put away.

Okay, if you haven't garnered this from my above posts - no fucking way I am intelligent enough to buy this shit on my own. I need someone to come in and
plug the damn thing in for me too. Buying things piecemiel off the internet is not going to work for me
And no, these are Compaq's, Dells, etc at Future Shop |

In a couple weeks all the big box stores (Best Buy, Futureshop) are going to have back to school sales.
I picked up a decent laptop last year for $600 Canadian pesos. If I wanted MS Office, it would've cost another $100, but I opted for for OpenOffice. Bring it home and turn it on. It's got Vista, it works and it's fast. BINGO BANGO U R DONE!!! |

So this is what I've learned
-PCs should be cheaper than laptops -If not, buy the laptop -Only reason to buy a PC is if you are running a home zoo, or if you tend to throw your keyboard down a flight of stairs on a regular basis -Future Shop is trying to royally screw idiots like me with these add-on packages Did I get all that? |

yeah, pretty much except you left off:
get a PC if you think you might need to upgrade it. and I don't have ferrets or hedgehogs or reptiles |

Well considering dhc doesn't even sound capable of plugging it in on her own I seriously doubt she will be trying to upgrade.

change that to ignore sales people and only get the warranty if you buy a laptop |
