Let's Go Away For A While - the instrumental on side one - is a classic. The "Pet Sounds" instrumental on side 2 is muzak.

I've got to agree with Dookie and Sam's Town. Great CD's.
Some others: Interpol "Antics" Moby "18" Radiohead "Kid A" (though Idioteque will always be the standout for me on that CD)

Was that the one where he was singing kinda mournfully? It's a good piece of work but I'd need to know it better before I gave it the "no
filler" nod. I'm pretty strict about the "no filler" criteria - it means no down time!

Yep, it's definitely mellower and more brooding. It's an album that gets better over repeated listenings.

Pet Sounds is not dated at all. The first side is a masterpiece from start to finish. You don't like That's Not Me? Caroline No? McCartney listened
to Pet Sounds and became determined to top Brian Wilson with Sgt Pepper (which doesn't make my list because of She's Leaving Home).

Oh, I've never thought Sgt. Pepper was the best Beatles album. It deserves credit for the precedent it set as a "concept" album, and A Day in the
Life is one of their greatest songs, but the stuff from their psychedelic period is their weakest, imo. The problem I have with Pet Sounds is that although
it's sonically great, many of the songs have the similar sound. The Beatles had already topped it with Revolver, which takes you somewhere from the
beginning to end -- every song is 180 degrees different form the next, yet they all make sense together somehow and they still sound fresh.

OOOH Good call NTA on Lauryn Hill...that's an awesome album!
Though, Alanis...meh. :-\ I think angry, pissed-off chick rockers are awesome, but it gets old after about 5 or 6 tracks. |

I kinda hate the guy, but Born In The USA deserves mention. And every single album Led Zeppelin ever recorded.

Can we compromise and at least say that The Girl Is Mine is embarrassingly bad? Overall, I actually think Off the Wall holds up better
from start to finish.
