The Chinese government's position is to discourage superstitions and magical thinking, including religion, because they serve no useful purpose and make people stupid. We see religion as a "right" and we can practice any bizarre belief we choose to. They view religion more practically as to whether it serves a useful purpose to people and society, and if it doesn't, it should have to justify it's existance or be eliminated.
