But taking that out of the picture the show hasnt been a quality one in a long time...they stopped putting any work into the job years ago, I'm interested in seeing what Francessa comes up with for his solo show. I was emailing with my dad about this today and if its true that Russo is going to Sirius, I think he will fail majorly for two reasons: 1. His solo shows are VERY hard to listen to, and Idont believe he is leaving to be a part of another radio team, it will be a solo show 2. Part of his shtick is being anti home town teams, but if its a national program on satellite radio, there is no home town team anymore, which hurts his act. Cant be anti every team in every sport but the SF giants

Between the two of them, if one was ever going to leave, I thought it would be Francesa cause of his ego. Never thought Russo would be stupid enough to leave such a successful show in the biggest sports market. I guess he was listening to other people who said Russo was the star of the program and Francesa was bringing him down. Mad Dog will realize that he made a YOOOGE mistake. After a few months on Sirius, he'll be begging to come back to FAN.

Not as Fatcessa partner but as another solo show.

Reminds me of that old saying...."you don't know what you got until it's gone" 1. His solo shows are VERY hard to listen to Actually, his Saturday morning solo shows especially during the baseball playoffs were damn entertaining.

Fatcesca was very good on NFL Sundays and Angry Puppy was entertaining as said above for baseball/tennis stuff. I especially loved his admission he loves to tweak the home team fans. His Yankee elimination day last week when he wore the Tampa Bay Rays hat was hilarious. I second what twzted and diss had to say. Due to the eroding WFAN radiocast (good hosts leaving, etc) and detestable clowns like Steve Sommers who makes me instantly switch the fookin eejit off...I've been listening to ESPN 1050 more frequently now. Brandon Tierney is pretty good and the midday shows are listenable. The only ones at the WFAN I can bother with anymore are Evan and Joe, Lori on Sunday nights, Fatcesca out of habit (especially when the Yankees are sucking) and maybe Chris Carlin if I want to hear a windbag.

Maybe it's just my hatred of the Yankees and Giants, but Mike always came off as someone who felt the need to get the last word on everything and look down on everybody cause he was so "knowledgable" As annoying as Dog got, I always felt he was speaking his mind with no alterior motives...and just wanted to make the show as good as it could be. Mike had a whole list of people he would protect and say a negative word against. Chris was the show, and I can't see it being nearly as successful. It's kind of sad to think we will never get the Friday predictions, all the March Madness coverage or the days with the Marquis ever again.

What were these two fighting about 6 months ago that they kept referring to? I'm guessing wfan is hurting financially and made a lowball offer to Dog, and he chose to move on for more cash.

Well, before the beginning when the Dog was doing sports for Imus. God he was irritating..but the combo of the two just worked. In a way, they represented different aspects of the New York Personality: Mike's know-it-all-ness and arrogance and Dog's high energy/Jerry Lewis type urban dope, and they represented what I dig about being a sports fan (wanting to be knowledgable and yet, rabid and excitable). Apart, it was clear what their respective weaknesses were, but when they were together, they rounded each other out. But I moved from Connecticut in 94, and haven't been able to enjoy Sports Talk since (as most of the local shows I've heard in Cicy and Baltimore are such homers). M&MD certainly were New York oriented, but their shows demonstrated a great awareness of NY sports history and still covered the Naqtional scene quite well. Did keep up with them some on the simulcast on Yes over the years, but its not the same as when you are sitting in traffic during rush hour. They will be missed....Right, Mikey? You are right on that, Dog....

You mean tweaking the home town teams, especially Mets and Yankees fans every single day isnt an alterior motive? His entire schtik was to tweak the hometown teams. Its something he was very good at, because every time they would make fun of Rutgers it would get my blood boiling and cause me to turn off the radio, mostly because we were just starting to get good in football and everytime they said anything bad it could hurt recruiting, but you have to know getting people mad was his goal. And anyone who says his solo shows were listenable are crazy. His solo shows never had a single bit of insight, they merely consisted of "how can I anger Yankees fans today" if you enjoy listening to Yankees fans whine and cry about why MadDog is being unfair to them, maybe thats entertaining, but I dont see it. As for missing the Friday football picks, maybe back in the early 90s it would be something to miss, but both of them have been .500 or less for the past 4 or 5 years, showing how little preparation they put into the show. Any fool can pick 3 games against the spread each week and do better than .500 and the experts on WFAN couldn't, which is sad. Hopefully Mike will not be so comfy anymore and really work on the new show.

But that's only a brief mention each week. I agree they really stopped doing serious homework in recent years. For example, Russo babbling on for weeks that Jason Bay's agent was Scott Boras and Jon Heyman had to remind him live on air after the Ramirez trade went down, that Boras was NOT Bay's agent I'm liking the WFAN format less and less. The 20-20 format and the expanding commercials have really cut into talk radio. Used to be, they would do the 20-20 and come right back but the 20-20 break would last almost 10 minutes. ESPN 1050 has a similar format but they break quicker and there is better flow in the talk radio for some reason. It's strange that they would bash Rutgers given that loudmouth Chris Carlin, their producer and occasional fill in is the Rutgers voice.
