That's like my cousin who took guitar lessons for 4 months and now has everyone believing that he's a rock god. When someone starts going on about him playing, he never speaks about no longer taking lessons or even picking up the guitar for that matter. I worked with a guy that was in Korea and believe me, anything I said got turned into his year living in the jungles of Korea, killing the enemy, having to go to therapy to get over all the killing he did, etc. If I even dared complain about being tired, hungry, or in pain, I sure heard about not ever being able to survive in Korea and I don't know what suffering is! I'm sure he was right, but my point is PeePaw sure would be talking about combat had he been involved in it at all.

Don't get me wrong, I still stand by what I said earlier, anyone serving for our benefit deserves some respect, but Jerry makes it out to be like he was a lifer. He certainly was not, looks like he did minimum duty. That's kinda crap that he uses it as some sort of badge. My husband's aunt was married to a Marine veteran of the Chosin Reservoir battle in the Korean War. Does anyone remember the series, Band of Brothers? There is one episode involving the Battle of the Bulge where afterwards one survivor talked about his experience and how sometimes at night he still feels as cold as he was at the Battle of the Bulge. Well, that is similar to my husband's uncle. He still had terrible nightmares involving the fighting and the intense cold decades after the actual battle. I forget what year he passed away in but it was in the 90s, forty years after the fact and he still had nightmares. Anyways, if Jerry was at that battle he deserves respect despite being a pompous Jerk with a capital J. However, didn't someone say he had a desk job somewhere safe and far away from the front lines crunching numbers or something? eta: While my husband's uncle participated in this nasty battle, he never spoke about it or talked about his experience to family other than his wife. His wife did talk about it with my mother in law and occasionally when I was in the room too. Otherwise the guy never ever mentioned or talked about it. Look up the battle it was nasty and miserable. I agree with those above who said they feel if Jerry had been anyplace where fighting was going on we would have heard about it. He just seems to be that type. So obviously sitting around all day, winning prizes, money, air-conditioning, comfortable beds, couches and fully stocked fridge are the worst conditions he's been through.
