In my career in the military, I lived in several states and traveled to all but 6, as soon as someone hears your accent, they ask if you are from Texas (mine was deep East Texas) and the Texan jokes would commence. I took it as flattery. I am proud to be a True Texan, but I can see how people from other states can see it as arrogance. There is only one state that consistantly can be identified simply by its shape. Anyhoo, nothing wrong with being from all those "other" states. Except Philly Penn., the WORST drivers I have ever seen.

die's right. Being a Texan is a matter of pride and if you aren't a native then you are not a Texan.

The key word is being "from" Texas. I went to grad school in Texas and we would have speakers from the State Legislature come in (don't even get me started on Texas' State Legislature) and they would ALWAYS ask "who here is from Texas?". One of my great good friends was from Maryland and his hand would always shoot up. He had lived in Texas for 7 years. I would scold him.

Anyway, OT and I know it, but I like to chatter.
