If Mark had opted for the $75,000, the pot would have been $493,000. Even without this the pot is at $420,000. So who cares who the mole is now? Apparently the "sabotage" was pointless this season if the winner is leaving with close to the maximum prize anyway. It was interesting when Steven got 510k and Dorothy got 636k (out of 1mil), because the mole actually kept a decent amount out of the pot. But this season??? Pointless. I realize that they have been offered $853k so far, but the maximum pot was clearly stated to be 500k. If they had been anywhere near that amount a few weeks ago they would have just dialed down the prizes for each mission. The point of all this rambling... the producers would have been better off saying that the maximum pot was 1 million and offering the same prizes for the missions. Finding out how the mole "sabotaged" when the winner got over 80% of the max won't be too exciting.

Like I said, they were offered 853k so far. However, I don't believe the producers would have let the pot go over 500,000. They upped the amounts when the team wasn't getting anywhere near 500k. And I'm not saying this is the mole's fault at all. It is the producers' fault for saying that the max pot was 500k when the winner is getting 420k.

Exactly. But Bill's year, the producers were smart enough to keep the total pot low enough so that they could show that the mole really sabotaged. This year, the producers gave them so many chances to win their 500k that the mole was fighting a losing battle. No matter what, the mole wasn't going to keep them from getting most of their max pot.

Since the promos are done after filming I would imagine that based on the total pot they ended up advertising the show as "up to 500k". Had they won 700k during the course of all missions I am sure the show would have been advertised as "up to 3/4 of a million". It's not a question of how close they got to the advertised maximum. It's a question of how much available money was kept from them.
