Mmm Eric.
I just watched some of my Generation Kill dvds and it's so weird to see him in a different role. If I didn't know the actors name it wouldn't even connect that they were the same person. |

'True Blood' returns Sunday
Fang bangers, rejoice. The sexy vampire series "True Blood" returns Sunday for its second season on HBO. The wildly popular fang-and-fantasy soap opera offers plenty of blood-curdling sex, gory murder and nightmarish creatures. Here's a refresher for all you fang bangers and newcomers alike. We went to Bing for the details about "True Blood" and other hot vampire goodies. The books: "True Blood" is based on the best-selling novels by Charlaine Harris. (Want to see pictures of her?) The series' creator:Alan Ball was captivated by the Southern vampire series but was already familiar with death from his first hit HBO show. (He was a producer-writer-director on which show?) The main players: Sookie Stackhouse: Actress Anna Paquin won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of this telepathic waitress who sets tongues a-wagging and bedsheets a-burning with her hot love scenes. Bill Compton: This 173-year-old vampire, played by Stephen Moyer, hooks up with Sookie. Their real-life romance: Paquin and Moyer took their on-screen affair to another level off-screen. Rumor has it that it's pretty serious -- they're shacking up. (See a photo gallery of the couple.) More vampire gore coming to cable: While books by "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer and Harris have become big hits, it's said that Laurell K. Hamilton's sexy vampire series starring Anita Blake, is getting the green light from Hollywood. When will the movie air? Southern gothic: "True Blood" is set in northern Louisiana, but the grande dame of the vampire novel, Anne Rice, claimed southern Louisiana -- especially New Orleans -- for her best-seller "Interview With the Vampire," which starred Hollywood hotties Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Thandie Newton and Christian Slater. Bonus 1960s-era vampire remake: Bill Compton's Southern charm captured Sookie, but these two have nothing on the '60s-era soap opera "Dark Shadows," where moody vampire Barnabas Collins stalked governess Victoria Winters in a spooky mansion in Maine. A big-screen version is said to be in the works. Which Hollywood hunk is rumored to be playing Barnabas? |

I got a pleasant surprise today; my HBO on my cable box came back! :D I immediately went to watch the rest of the first season of True Blood that I didn't
get to see, and I have just the last three episodes to watch. Not that I need to really, (I bought the book while HBO was off our cable plan so I know what
mostly happens). Man, I can't wait for Sunday!

I know!! I was just going to watch it on line but I made my husband order HBO today so I wouldn't have to wait for someone to post the episodes. OMG, I
can't stand this.
When does Dexter start again? That would be the trifecta of goodness to have BB, True Blood and Dexter all on at the same time. |

I'm a DVD on TV kind of guy, and I just finished Season 1, and I was wondering, from someone who has read the books, how much content was covered in season
1? Like are we going to have a season a book, or did this cover many? I can't check this again after the new season starts since I don't get the HoBO,
so hurry the fuck up!

Oh I've been watching shit online from Torrents since '03. I'd rather just wait and watch them all at once without commercials in the comfort of my
home theatre room.
Heck, I have gotten to the point where I don't watch anything but reality shows week to week now, and many of them I watch online to avoid commercials. |

I talked one of my friends into buying Season 1 on DVD yesterday. She's all into the Twilight series, finished the books, and said she wanted more vampires
and asked if she should buy True Blood. Of course, I said yes. So hopefully, I added a new viewer. I'm going to watch all of season 1 today and tomorrow in
preparation for the premiere. So excited!!!

Bella no match for Sookie at vampire loveSubservient 'Twilight' heroine a terrible role model for pre-teen girls
Commentary
By Susan C. Young

updated 12:42 p.m. CT, Wed., June 10, 2009
For an intelligent girl, "Twilight" heroine Bella easily slips into the passenger seat when it comes to her relationship with her undead boyfriend Edward Cullen. Edward, who has been 17 for almost a century, may drive a snazzy sports car and look like a GQ model, but he has some old-fashioned ideas about a man's role in a relationship. He is Bella's protector, even sneaking into her bedroom to watch her sleep or disabling her vehicle so she can't go somewhere he deems dangerous. Bella's besotted by Edward, and willingly wants to enter the vampire world even if it means giving up her family and friends - not to mention hunting down wildlife to suck their blood. Sookie, like Bella, started as the main character in a popular book series. She took shape in the HBO series "True Blood," which returns for a second season on June 14. While the two share a common story - the love between a mortal and a vampire - the characters couldn't be more different when it comes to their relationship with their undead boyfriends. Sookie doesn't need a guy with a pulse to make her blood race, but she's not about to make the leap into that cold, dead world. Bella's obsessed with spending eternity with her love. In a long history of girl-meets-blood-sucker fantasies, these two fictional women have taken the spotlight in the resurgence of vampire obsession. Bella slips into a controlling relationship, hoping to toss her mortality away like last year's fashion trend. Sookie's just looking for a good time before moving on to something that resembles a normal life. Young women like 17-year-old Sara represent the target audience for "Twilight," and she admits being uncomfortable with the character of Bella. "She does everything this guy tells her to do, and it's not right," Sara says. "I think too many girls my age don't want to be themselves. They say they are in love, but they are pretending to be something they aren't because they want their boyfriends to like them more than they want to be who they really are." And, Sara says, who even knows who they really are at 17? No need for a dashing savior prince
Sookie often tells Bill she can take care of herself, and although she's certainly benefited more than once from his super powers, she doesn't allow the immortals to dictate her life. From a role model standpoint, that puts her several notches above the more malleable Bella. Yet the soft porn aspect of both the Sookie Stackhouse books, "The Southern Vampire Mysteries," and the skin fest "True Blood" should be a no-teen zone. And that's too bad, because young girls could benefit from watching a woman hold her own against the fang gang.
Sookie's immediately mesmerized when Bill wanders into her diner. Finally, someone whose mind she cannot read, who gives her some mental quiet and forces her to discover his thoughts without supernatural means. When he's lured out to the parking lot by some nasty humans who subdue him with silver chains while they drain his marketable blood, it's Sookie to the rescue. While Sookie's obviously the more self-reliant spirit, there's no getting around the graphic sex aspect of "True Blood." So for role models, we're hoping the new CW series "Vampire Diaries" -based on a book series that predates the "Twilight" saga by more than a decade, might fill the gap. The series offers the same girl-meets-vampire formula, but Elena appears from the pilot to more Buffy than Bella.
Even a vampire slayer like Buffy can't resist the lure of the blood suckers. Everything about the cold ones, as Edward points out to Bella, is made to be seductive to their human prey. The bad boys represent the ultimate sensual catnip, yet even they can fall under the enchantment of a mortal. These women usually represent a strong, vital personality that proves just as seductive to the vampire as the thought of knocking back a few pints of A negative. It's too bad that a force as strong as "Twilight" can't serve to show young women that they have their own power, and don't need to be subservient in order to find true love. Susan C. Twilight is about as much like True Blood as a Twinkie is like a cactus. Liking "real" vampire tales, as I do, I could barely tolerate Twilight, which I can't really understand all the love for. "Sparkling" vampires, for God's sake!?! |
