Thank you. I have not read the books, have no desire to, and shouldn't be expected to do so to understand what is going on. Do I think Sookie is annoying
and a brat and an idiot? YES. Do I think she should behave any other way? Not necessarily. So far, it's working for the story so I'm good.

Sookie acts the way she does because she can hear every stupid thing people around her think about. If that's not enough to make a gal bitchy, then I
don't know what is.

Yea, seriously. I'd be a gigantic douche to everyone too if I had to hear what they actually really thought about me every second of everyday.

My biggest problem with Sookie's attitude was last year when Bill had to go off to get punished and when he came back she was making out with Sam. Her
whole speech about how he left her and she didn't know if he was coming back. He left because he was being punished for saving her life, which she knew.
And it seemed like he was only gone for at the most maybe a week and she's already moved on and mad at him that he finds something wrong with that.
Plus it seems to me like she treats Sam like shit in general. But maybe she learned that one from Tara. Actually it seems like everyone has been treating Sam like shit and for no good reason |

Sam is definitely getting dicked around by everyone right now. Poor guy can't catch a break. |

My issue with Sookie is the same in th show as it is in the books (because Anna is portraying Sookie as she was written). And that is that Sookie acts very
immature, entitled and seemingly goes through life in a selfish way with no regard for others around her. Granted, it is not unusual for a girl to be
immature, selfish, etc. in her mid-20s, but I would expect Sookie to be mature beyond her years due to what her past was. Sookie went through a lot and you
would think that growing up so fast and enduring such hardship would result in her being mature beyond her years and more self-aware and less selfish. IMO,
it's just poor character development as she was written and I blame Charlain Harris for not doing a better job.
However, even though I have never really cared for Sookie, because her personality is off-putting and the things she does makes her less sympathetic when she ends up hurt or in danger, I love the whole overall concept of the books and the supporting characters around Bill & Sookie. So, I'm fine with Sookie & Bill getting on my nerves immensely, because without them we wouldn't be able to enjoy Eric, Pam, Lafayette, Sam, Tara, TERRY, MaryAnn, Jessica, Hoyt, Jason . . . As Maxx pointed out, the way Sookie acted when Bill went through the tribunal and had to pay consequences for his actions saving Sookie's ass, all Sookie cared about was how it affected her. Also, with the way she is towards Sam and others, Sookie acts more like a bratty teenager than a woman. Yes, GreJu, poor Sam really does get the brunt of it. Which is why I am hoping that Daphne will actually be a good thing for Sam and maybe he'll be able to have a lover of his own, at least for a little while, and finally have something good in his life. Sam deserves a decent girlfriend. Poor guy. He's the second hottest guy on the show, IMO, after Eric.

Carboys Desire wrote:I agree....the show has to stand on its own. Not everyone likes to read, and not everyone that likes to read is interested in stories featuring vampires and the like. Hell, if the shows audience consisted only of people who have read the books, it wouldn't be nearly as popular. I read just about anything, and I loved Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles, but I haven't picked up these books yet. I will likely read them eventually, but for now I prefer to follow just the show. I agree that Sookie is a little brat, but as Carboy said, it works for the story so it works for me. The only thing that was truly bothersome to me was her getting in Eric's face with the 'free Lafayette or else' bullshit. He should have thrown her across the room, and then Bill too if he tried to intervene. I like Sookie, but I'd still like to see her ass get put in check. She's a little too big for her britches. There is a thin line between bravery and foolishness and sometimes her actions are simply foolish. That kind of behavior gets people in trouble and she jepordizes everyone around her with that attitude. JMO, of course. |

I read Sookie in the books as having a chip on her shoulder, not being bratty. In the show, we aren't getting that narration that gives you her
perspective, so of course it come off differently. The only time in the series when her brattiness really bothered me was when she kissed Sam so soon after
Bill left. I liked it when she had the balls to demand money from Eric. I thought, fuck yeah he should pay if you're missing work. I also saw it as her way
of punishing him a bit more for the Lafayette captivity.

Eric is a little fascinated by Sookie, so he won't harm her.
Actually, most men on the show are. |

I just like Sookie because she's not deathly afraid of every little thing like everyone else on the show is.

Terry should be on that list Pinot
I thought he was great from the first time he was introduced. My cousin Terry killed 20 Iraqis in Fallujah, (Terry twitching/flinching) you saying we should lock him up He should be locked up I love the guy, even those sunglasses he wears are freaking great. I don't like that he is interested in Arlene though. |

What's even worse about forgetting him is that we share the same name. And I agree about Arlene. Terry deserves better than that. Nothing against Arlene, but she is ignorant trash. |

Maybe in their new world, with vampires and whatever else, telepathy doesn't seem like such a big deal. Plus, I imagine it's really fucking annoying to be around someone who can hear your thoughts. |

I loved Arlene's line from this week:
Sookie asked me to switch and I figured I owed her because...you know. *shrugs* Yes, trading shifts totally makes up for your ex-fiancee attempting to kill your friend after killing her grandmother and framing her brother for the murders. I do love Terry so, so much. And poor Sam is getting dumped on left and right. As far as the books vs the show, I think the show DOES stand on its own, but if you want insight into the characters and their motivations, the books are a good place to go. |
