I had mixed feelings about it. I loved the book, but this adaptation seemed a bit empty. I can't imagine anyone loving it without having read the book. One
of the worst things about it was the acting by the chick who played Laurie Jupiter. And that sex scene was hilariously awkward and bad.

The sex scene was pretty bad they should have cut them all out cept for the one with the blue man .

Yeah, the blue threesome was kinda cool, but the Nite Owl sex scene was one of the worst in cinema history. Hallelujah playing in the background
didn't help. I lol'd.

See I preferred the movie Laurie Jupiter. I thought she was a horrible character in the book. In fact all the female characters were pretty awful.

Yeah, I agree the character was more likable in the movie, but I thought the actress was barely one step up from a cardboard stand-in. And I thought Sally
Jupiter's character was one of the weakest parts of the book. I never got a sense of who she was or why she did the things she did. Carla Gugino did the
best she could in the movie, given what little she had to work with. I would've loved to know more about the Silhouette's character. Actually, I found
the snippets of the Minutemen's stories more interesting than the Watchmen.

The worst thing they did in the movie was to give her Dr Manhattan's line at the end. It made no sense coming from her.

Yeah the beginning with the Minutemen was really well done.

It's clear they didn't have three hours worth of material, so they tried to fill it up the best they could. They failed. it was the size i mean the length of the movie that kinda kicked its ass.I guess that explains why The Lord of the Ring movies flopped so hard. And agreeance on the awkwardness of the sex scene. It felt totally out of place, though ironically it displayed the best acting from Laurie's actress (the scenes with her on Mars were extremely brutal), although the guy couldn't have been less interested. |

The people who didn't like this just wanted a mindless action flick.
Well, boo fucking hoo, you bunch of fags. This wasn't a standard superhero movie. There was no bad guy. There was no action. If there were, this would be a mindless action flick and probably would have sucked. This was a flick with substance and for people with BRAINS. |

Oh, they had more than three hours worth of material, that was the problem. The book wasn't plot driven, which evidently threw a lot of people who went
thinking it was going to be an action movie. Frankly, I thought the ending was kind of silly, but that wasn't what I enjoyed so much about reading it. It
was getting to know the characters, the history behind them, and all the little side journeys that made it so interesting. I think it was probably a mistake to
make this into a movie, because it's almost impossible to capture all of those little nuances onto screen. That said, I think it was done as well as it
could be done.

The people who didn't like this just wanted a mindless action flick. If it's not a superhero flick, then it shouldn't have been advertised as a superhero flick. And I love depth. You can't have a good movie without good characters, imo. But Watchmen doesn't have good characters. Just because a movie is boring as shit, doesn't mean it somehow some has depth. You can develop your plot and characters while still keeping your audience entertained. The Dark Knight did this. Watchmen didn't, and if you've noticed, my problems with the movie were mostly due to its crappy plot and awful dialouge. Granted, I didn't really hate this movie at all, it gets a 6/10 from me, because there were some good stuff about it... But the movie had a lot of issues that I think another draft could've fixed.

I wasn't expecting it to be a typical action flick thats why I went to go see it you dumb fuck. I do expect there to be a good story that makes sense and wasn't scattered or stretched all over the place, where scenes were stretched so thin. I never felt any connection with the characters nor did the characters ever feel like they connected with each other, so at the end of it all I never really cared what happened to any of them. As I stated earlier in this thread, they were all just hollow pieces of wood running around doing stuff. It TRIED to have substance and brains but it failed. |
