There were a lot of interesting things so I'll probably come back and fill in other details as I remember them. But here's the start of my recap.
It took the better part of the day to do this. It's about a 90 minute drive each way. I left home about 1PM and didn't get back until just a few minutes before the show aired on the west coast at 8PM. They taped not only the BB show, but also tomorrow's Early Show segment. So we got to see both.
One interesting thing first: when Julie finished interviewing Brian after he left the house, they whisked him away quickly. After the BB show ended they cautioned us not to say anything to Brian that might give away what happened after his eviction. This was to protect the "integrity" of the game. They stage manager also told the crew to make sure any details were removed (they had some story board things about the HoH comp and other various things) before they brought back Brian. After his TES interview, he was whisked away again quickly. This could mean that he will be going to sequester and we all know what that likely means. However, I thought Julie said that he would be on housecalls tomorrow. If he talks directly to callers, he's probably not being sequestered. If he talks only to Gretchen, he may.
Anyway, on with the recap.
I went with my brother and once we got up to Studio City we quickly found the parking structure mentioned in the ticket instructions. There was a page there who told us the parking structure wouldn't open for another 15 minutes and that we should just drive around and come back. There were only 3 other people waiting there so far, so we weren't concerned.
Just 100 feet down the road we found street side parking and decided to just park there. We walked back to the parking structure and waited with the page and the other 3 people. While we were waiting the page said that we could keep cell phones but they must be completely turned off. So we decided to hold on to ours. In less than 10 minutes they were ready and he took us through the parking structure to the lot entrance. At the entrance to the lot however there were security guys with walk through metal detectors. They informed us that no cell phones were allowed, so my brother ran back to put our phones in the car while I continued on to get us line numbers.
The next area was just after the metal detectors. There was a lady there who explained to us (only about 6 of us there at that point, there were others on the way but they were busy parking) that we would need to give her our tickets, then proceed down some stairs to a booth where we would be photographed holding our release forms. Each form they handed out had a unique number. I presume this is how they find a release form for a given face. We were also given a short questionnaire. The lady took my tickets first so we ended up with line numbers #1 and #2.
After the little booth there were some benches. They directed us to sit there while we filled out the questionnaires and signed the release.
The questionnaire was a simple form:
Who do you think is being evicted today?
Who do you want to be evicted today?
Who is your favorite HG in BB10?
Who is your favorite HG ever?
What one question would you like to ask a BB10 HG?
Your name.
I only really paid attention to the evicted questions (You know. Just in
case.) I was skeptical that anyone was actually going to read these so I didn't even bother asking an HG question. Not long afterwards a lady came along and collected the signed release and then a guy came along and collected the questionnaires.
By this point there were probably about 50 people there. About 10 mins later the guy that took the questionnaires comes back and he had a selection of them in his hand. He started calling out names to find people and then asked them questions about their HG question. It was all in a fun spirited way.
My brother's question was for Jerry and he wanted to know what Jerry's wife will have to say about the "touching."
The guy questioned my brother about it:
"Well do you think Jerry touched them long enough to know?"
"How long do you think Jerry needs to touch them to be sure?"
"Would 30 seconds be enough?"
etc.
When asked what they would do with the questions, he said they may ask them of the house guests today, later, maybe never, but you never know and expect the unexpected. So we weren't sure what to make of all that.
People kept piling in until there were over 100. The tickets stated a dress code of business casual. No shorts or t-shirts permitted. Though there were many people in tatter shorts, t-shirts, etc. So apparently it's not a hard rule.
Eventually, I think about 3:50, they lined us up to head to the BB set. It was a short walk past numerous lots and bungalows. We also passed the area where they build and store the challenge sets. That was really interesting to see. They were building a set for an upcoming challenge which appeared to use two water towers kind of things. They were unpainted when we went into the show, and painted by the time we got out. Those guys work quick.
As we neared the BB set, you could see the fence around the back yard. When we got there they had us stand in a line against the fence around the back yard area two deep and we waited for a short while.
Before too long someone from production came out and looked over the people in the line. They asked us (me and my brother) to step out and for a second line. They then collected another 15 people or so from the rest of the line to stand in the second line. I have no idea what they were looking for, probably just dress, but after that, they took us in before everyone else and seated us in the front row. ( I was seated in the left section, first row, on the center aisle.) It was just shortly after 4PM.
(It's been a long day. I will continue with the recap of the BB show tomorrow.)
