As for Scott-Thomas, she has a shot, but a very slim one with no SAG nom or BFCA nom (Winslet missed out on BFCA too, but RR screeners weren't seen), plus the foreign factor. People expected her to sweep critics awards, but she isn't. Gleeson has no buzz or enough precursors. It's a surprise In Bruges was even remembered. Sheen screwed his chances this year. They decided to campaign both him and Langella for Best Actor, and now Sheen is 100% screwed. Had he gone Supporting Actor he probably would've made it in. You're right about DeWitt. She could very well be competing with Henson/Adams. I think Adams will grab the fifth slot, though. There's often a trend in the Supporting Actress races, where 2 actresses from one movie get in (2006, 2002, 2001, 2000).

Look at Peter O'Toole(England), Kate Winslet(England), Spike Lee(New York), Woody Allen(New York), Micheal Moore(Michigan), Cohen Brothers(Texas), Christian Bale(England), Johnny Depp(France), Alan Rickman (England) and Tim Burton(England) to name a few. WRONG WRONG WRONG. CRASH WON NOT BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST PICTURE, IT WON BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD A CHANCE TO BEAT BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. SO THE HOMOPHOBICUNTS VOTED FOR CRASH.

I wasn't ever looking forward to it, but I kept a positive attitude going in. Thanks for ruining my Christmas, Fincher. Brad Pitt was unbelievably dull like 95% of the movie. It's like he made no effort to show emotion, he just tried to blend in with the scenery. Taraji P. Henson was so caricaturish. Tilda Swinton's scenes dragged the most. Cate Blanchett was actually good for a boring role. This movie isn't moving at all, it really is an emotional dud and I'm glad critics aren't going insane over it. I guess a positive is... the cinematography? I'm not done ranting yet. How cliched was half the shit in the movie? And the parts with the old man and his "I got struck by lightning seven times" stories were so included just to pick up boring, dull scenes. The only reason they were included was to engage the audience again. Really forgettable overall. Ew, this shit better not win ONE god damn Oscar. I'll be depressed if it's nominated for more than 2, which is unfortunately likely.

Especially ones with "big important themes" that teach us about life. I haven't seen it yet. It's getting lukewarm reviews though. Ebert trashed the movie. From what I've read, they might as well have called it "Forrest Gump 2" and be done with it. But I'm still looking forward to watching it. It seems to be a very polarizing film so far, based on the reviews I've read. I just don't see the Academy giving Slumdog Millionaire the big prize. These indie movies never win. So TCCOBB seems to be the frontrunner by default. Milk could still be one of the top contenders, despite the Golden Globes snub.

Posts: 135 (12/26/08 12:11 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I saw Milk the other day and suprisingly really enjoyed it, I wasn't expecting to hate it but I'm not a huge fan of biopics or Sean Penn, but somehow those two elements came together and worked. The one thing about the movie that really troubled me was the supporting performances, I wasn't particularly impressed by Brolin or Franco at all. And Diego Luna's character was just embarrassing. I'm really not sure what I am missing about the supporting performances.

I think the globe voters are going to support Kate Winslet for the Reader and that will syphon votes from Cruz. I think Doubt will get a major awards push, I think The Wrestler is going to be the January surprise film and that will give Tomei a huge bump. I actually think Tomei is the front runner this year.
