I believe Brokeback lost because of how slow paced it was. When compared narratively to Crash, you really see the difference. Crash is constantly moving and is definitely an "edge of your seat" kind of movie. At least in some parts. BM never gets there. And I do find it kind of ridiculous that you guys are whining about homophobia in Hollywood. Exactly how much more do you want people to accept the gay community? Lord.

Crash won for two reasons, 1 the conservative portion of the Academy(remember the Academy does have an older quit conservative base) voted against it and Crash due to its huge cast and local setting had a big political local backing.

Most people might not notice the LA bias until they look at how difficult English, New York, Independant and Foreign studios, directors, and actors have it. Look at Peter O'Toole(England), Kate Winslet(England), Spike Lee(New York), Woody Allen(New York), Micheal Moore(Michigan), Cohen Brothers(Texas), Christian Bale(England), Johnny Depp(France), Alan Rickman (England) and Tim Burton(England) to name a few.
