Let's hope SAG doesn't fuck this up with a strike. I'm looking forward to seeing Mr. Sexiest Man Alive.

Interesting choice...I think I like it. He's hot and can be great onstage.

I think he'll be great. He got me to tune into the Tony's a few years ago and he was great then. At the very least, we'll get some bonafide host
eye candy.

Funny thing about The Dark Knight, at first their were all of these oscar baiting films and look what happened
Austrailia - flopped Doubt - mixed reviews Curious Case of Benjamin Buttton - was a lock now its not tracking well And the Golden Globes noms where all over the place |

MsJulieR wrote:YES! and hopefully he will do it shirtless! With 143 reviews Rotten Tomatoes has Milk as one of it's highest ratings at 93%. Very surprising that it was locked out of the GGs. I don't think it deserves best movie, but Sean Penn is phenomenal in the role.

I'm looking forward to the Oscars and the noms. Perfect timing for the thread! I do hate how all the Oscar worthy movies come out right before the noms are
due. Seems stupid. Looking forward to seeing the Reader (loved the book!) and Benjamin Button. I saw the Changling. Loved it. Can't wait to see Brangelina
at the awards!

That's interesting about Jackman. When's the last time they picked a non-comic to host?

I hope they really do complete change the format of the show. It needs it. All awards shows do.

They should have all the nominees on the stage and one by one, they losers are sent back to their seats. "Meryl Streep, you didn't win. Kate Winslet,
congratulations!"

I can't wait to see my Avi. dance and sing and rip his shirt off! I heard he is asking this to be formatted around his 'talents' not, stand-up
comedy, which I'm sick of anyway.
I cannot wait to see 'Doubt', I love all of the key 4 performers and I 'also' have a special love for Kate Winslet, but beware.... Anne Hathaway was very good in 'Rachel Getting Married'. Unlike many people I really like the independent films over the blockbusters. |

Willy2Fun wrote:Same here, Willy. And since this year there isn't anything my beloved Julianne Moore can win an overdue Oscar for, I hope for one of my other 2 favorites Toni Collette & Kate Winslet. But Toni isn't in anything either, so that leaves Kate. I love her too and hope she wins. That movie sounds quite good actually. |

Well, then we should do 'shots!' and celebrate our Kate love. She is in two movies that are both recognizing her amazing talent (The Reader) being the
other. So, I really hope she is rewarded for a slough of great performances. I still love the heck out of Meryl though..I just saw 'A Cry in the Dark'
(Dingo ate my baby) on t.v. the other night and I'm in awe of her performance.
I'm so happy Hugh is heading the show and hope they alter the format to engage him re: his talents (he has asked for this!) and I love Julianne Moore (she was in 'Blindness' and I loved her in it, but it got luke-warm reviews) |

Willy2Fun wrote:Oh actually I was referring to "The Reader" but the other movie (Revolutionary Road) looks great too. She cannot be nominated for two movies in the same category, but she'll get at least one of them. Julianne was robbed for "Far From Heaven", and I still haven't forgiven (and hate) Nicole Kidman even though it's not her fault that she won. Hugh hosting is an interesting choice, and since I love him too I am looking forward to it a little bit more. But they really need to condense this shit down to no more than 2.5 hours. |

You have to love Hugh or we can't do shots.
Also, I read that they may put her up as 'supporting actress' for 'The Reader', but I don't know how they can do that ..I mean, she's the star of it? But, the academy is whacked sometimes...so..? who knows! |

I would not be at all surprised if the following happens this year: The Oscar pray to bring back ratings, and go for the next Titanic, and give the Dark Knight
every nomination possible and every award. (Ledger, Picture, Director, costume, sound ect ect] even if the Globes snubbed them i wouldn't be surprised if
this movie get the big win. A second option i wouldn't count out, will i guess call it the "Dixie Chick Factor". Because of the whole Prob 8
[California] i wouldn't be surprised in semi protest Milk wins every award [possible even snubbing Heath Ledger]. But then again neither can happen but
these instances wouldn't surprise me.

I just saw 'Milk' and loved it (in a sad way) Sean Penn was terrific. I also saw the D.K. and I really liked Heath Ledger in it; much more than the
movie as a whole, and I'm not into blockbuster films. Heath!

I think Winslet will end up with 2 nods. Actress for R. Road and Supporting Actress for The Reader. Hopefully this is her year, since she's getting stronger reviews than Streep is. |

My Best Pic predictions:
The Curious Case of Benjammin Button Milk Slumdog Millionaire Frost/Nixon The Dark Knight Sure, it may be a bit of a safe list. I saw Rachel Getting Married earlier today and I thought it was great and wouldn't mind seeing it nominated for Best Pic, but I'm seeing Milk and Slumdog this week. I've heard fantastic things about both (especially Slumdog) so I expect good things to come from both films. If I had to pick a winner right now, I'd say Slumdog. One other thing: Tom Cruise getting a Best Supporting GG nomination is just about the funniest thing ever. |
