they have just ruined gymnastics, the scoring system is so stupid now, and the fact there cant be ties. Nastia and He should both get the gold.

What's the inside joke (other than Vent)?
The thing that's pissing me off about gymnastics is the new scoring system. Losing the 10.0 perfection I thought was a mistake, but if the new open ended system provides better results, I'll give it a try. Well, it sucks. No one knows WTF is going on, big talk prior to their events gets rewarded just as much as how the event was actually executed, and now we get this tiebreaker bullshit. Plus, the thing unmentioned is the judging panel composition. I use to love the olden days when you have a panel of fully biased judges who'd reward a solid effort with a smattering of 9.4's to 9.6's except for that bitch East German who'd ALWAYS throw down a 8.2 for NATO and 9.8 for Warsaw Pact. So with high/lows disregarded, the panel basically got it right. Why not bring back panels in which all 8 judges are from the countries of the 8 gymnasts? |

Anyone just see the shit about the America/China baseball game? That's some shit right there. American players lay out two Chinese catchers on plays at the
plate. That's baseball - happens all the time. Hell, Pete Rose did it in an All-Star Game. The Chinese pitcher then threw at the guy who laid out the
catcher - but at his fucking head. The kid that got hit in the head has a mild concussion. That's a big fucking deal. Hit batsman retaliation is part of
the game, but you don't throw at someone's head. And then some Chinese douchebag hits a homerun in the 9th inning in a 9-0 game they were losing and he
trots around the bases like Kirk Gibson or Joe Carter with his hand in the air. Classless horseshit on the part of the Commies. I feel sorry for the
women's softball team. Not their fault that every other country sucks ass at the game. Oh, and I noticed that the manager of the Chinese baseball team is
Jim Lefebvre (sp?). Can't there be a rule that these coaches can't all swap countries. Chinese dudes coaching the American female gymnasts. American
dudes coaching Chinese baseball players. American chicks playing basketball for Russia because her grandmother once blew a guy named Mikhail in the
50's?!?!?!? There's a lot of shit they gotta fix. Oh and the American chick who won gold in the discuss may be the ugliest looking chick on the planet.

The Chinese girl gymnasts sound funny when they yell in the background to their teammate on an apparatus event. Listen tomorrow and you'll know what I
mean.
The ladies who carry out the medals are beautiful. |

what's pathetic is removing softball and baseball from the games
is it because the US women can't be beat ? to keep fucking speed walking as a 'sport' and other stupid shit yet remove a sport that is play worldwide is pathetic hell they could get rid of some stupid games but not baseball. Hell look at how basketball is so global but it took years to get there. |

fuck impartiality. put the chinese, usa, russian, whatever... on the judging table. of course the russian goes 10.0 for the russian and the american goes
5.5. that is old school. we are used to that. so what?
i swear the nclb folks are behind this new scoring system. i envision a future olympics when each and every competitor get a medal. a "hugs and
rainbows and pony" medal.
a "you are unique and special no matter where you finish" medal. 10.0 is the shit. do it. judge it fairly. that is the answer... |

Actually I bet if the US shotputter had her hair done right, she'd be be exotic cute.
Exoctic cute now including chicks that could snap your spine like a toohpick. Still, I liked her. I saw the womens shotput live in Atlanata. It gave me one of my top five favorite memories of that Olympiad. A huge overmuscled German chick bounding around the stadium making our beers emanate rows of contact circles like in the coffee cup in Juraissic Park as the Tyranorsours Rex approached. Not kidding. Wheh that chick bounced up and down on her victory round, I was in the 200's and felt it. Still, she was infectious, we all loved loved loved her for her sheer joy, and I remain with hopes of one day boinking her. |

Sounds like this is getting to be a slightly controversial Olympics

Not to sound like Vent or anything, but I have to take our commentators opinions (and that's what they are) with a grain of salt. I imagine that the commentators on Chinese television were saying how much better He's performance was... Watching with an [admittedly] inexpert eye, I saw more errors in Nastia's routine. The commentators only pointed out one point that her legs came apart, but there were several. They brushed aside some "breaks in form" on the dismount, but when they showed it in slow motion, her legs were flailing. Those are deductions! Yes, she had a better landing than He, but I thought that He had an overall cleaner routine. Of course, I thought the Chinese alien girl (Ylang Ylang or whatever her name is) smoked BOTH of the girls who tied, and deserved the gold over either of them... |

Really - what other olympic sport has 41 year old athletes getting a shitload of money thrown at them? Certainly not the high profile summer events like Track and Field, Swimming or Gymnastics. My issue is that it will probably come out that she's doping. Why? Because that's just par for the course with athletes lately - if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Sure Michael Phelps is the shit, but he's also 23 years old. Dara Torres is nearly twice that age. Something just don't seem right. My other and biggest issue is the media's portrayal of her. She's like some fucking Terminator robot being created in a lab. But to the real deal - just watched the Nastia Luikin thing. Man, that was complete and utter horseshit. I'm still confused. Is it Dara's age or the amount spent on her Olympic ambitions (or both)? Because other sports must cost WAY more. I can't even imagine what it costs to bring the horses over to China for the equestrian team! Not to mention the year-round monumental expenses to maintain horses (food, stables, veterinary care, additional caretaking staff, etc.). I guarantee that each athlete in this sport spent more than $100,000 this last year in order to compete at these games. And some of the equestrian folks are pretty darned old, too... I don't find it surprising that it takes more work (and consequently more expense) to whip a 41-year-old body into shape as opposed to a 22-year-old body. I'm just not sure why it takes away from the accomplishment one iota when the results are so impressive. All of that, of course, is assuming that she is not doping. If she is, then clearly that is a separate issue... |

And I have a new favorite Olympian. Yelena Isinbaeva (Russian pole-vaulting gold-medalist) TOTALLY RAWKS!

Meh. I was hoping for the American girl to win the pole vaulting, since she's from my area. But then I slept through the whole thing.

I imagine that the commentators on Chinese television were saying how much better He's performance was... I get what you're saying, but this is the same guy who was fucking pissing himself over how amazing the Chinese are during the team comp, so it's not like he's been biased against them. Personally, I agree that the thrid girl was better than both of them, and He is only 14 so she shouldn't be there in the first place. |

^Totally! Yelena rocks the house. Now that made for great Olympic coverage!
Whitfield still has it in him to win the silver medal. But I can't believe it all came down to a foot race in the last part of the triathalon. |

Drew B wrote:The judges for RSA, NZ, and AUS, who have non-existant gymnastics programs scored He over Liukin. But the Polish and Bulgarian judges (who actually have gymnasts on the international stage with admittedly B level gymnastics programs) scored Liukin over He. Say what you want about the bias of the NBC commentators, but the judges with real gymnatics backgrounds gave it to Liukin. The Australian judge, as I mentioned before, should be stripped of her duities. And like you said, Yinlin had a cleaner routine than He -- so even you admit that the judging is whacked out. |

But you are right, I think that last Chinese creature won, but I'm glad she didnt because she's so fucking creepy looking that I had her. Ok, can
we finish this dopey subjective gymnastics shit and have an event with a real winner that any person watching can see.
