Nothing unAmerican but what really get to me about the NBC announcers is the way they talk about other nations winning the gold medal. For example, Bulgaria
won gold for a sport (Can't remember which, but that's besides the point). So they show the medal givings, because an American won silver, and when
they finish the whole medal ceremony, complete with Bulgaria's national anthem, they cut back to this guy at the desk and he says "Now that was an
exotic medal ceremony." Like wtf! He makes another comment about the whole thing being exotic, and this is seriously pissing me off! Since when is it that
a person who is not an American winning the gold at an international event made for more than one country to participate whose national anthem is heard by
thousands suddenly become an exotic event. It's as if he acts as though this was an American event where the Americans are doing the world a favour by
allowing athletes from other countries to participate, and it just so happens that some one from another country wins. Stupid asshole.

I love every single minute of the hype surrounding Phelps, because he deserves it. Plus, it's extremely rare for an athlete who's hyped to such a
gigantic degree to actually deliver. And he did. In a big way. Records were made to be broken. Spitz was a great champion, but the sport has progressed and
Phelps has taken it to another level. 30 years from now, I would hope that Phelps would be gracious enough to be happy if someone breaks his record or gets
close. To Ian Thorpe, who took the liberty of proclaiming that Phelps wouldn't break Spitz's record: How does that crow taste? Suck it, bitch.

The NBC camera guy who was cleaning the lens during the women's marathon race yesterday, and the look on that guy's face who stood below Phelp's
mother after he won his 8th gold...both Classic.

I would feel the same way if he wasn't American. I was young when Mark Spitz did his thing but I remember it was a big deal. I'm glad Phelps has broken the records for a new generation of Olympic fans and I'm really happy to be able to witness it. What he did is going to inspire so many of our youth to strive for their best. I hope he can carry the burden of his fame and not fuck it up. He has indirectly signed up for a lifetime of scrutiny. |

It's a team event. Every one of them owes the gold to every other one (including the ones who swam in the heats who didn't swim in the finals). |

Nope, I know what Ian Thorpe looks. This guy was wearing a white shirt. He had a strange look that was too funny when the camera was showing Phelp's mom. Maybe the guy I'm speaking of was at Phelps earlier event. It was one of those people you can't help but notice in a crowd. |

The guy had his mouth open and eyes wide and kept moving his head back and forth from the pool to the scoreboard, pool to scoreboard, in shock. ETA: Jim Lampley is interviewing Dara Torres right now. Gee, isn't it shocking that Dara Torres won two medals despite being 85 years old, with 14 great-grandchildren, and an iron lung? Let's ask her about that some more!

lol, Sounds like the guy indeed. He was center of the screen so he was more distracting than Phelp's mom. His reaction was unchanging--I was literally lol at that moment. I was thinking he might be psycho. lol |

I don't know about you all, but Phelps has inspired me to get wet.
I can't get over the Jamaican dude nonchalantly cruising to his win in the 100m. I think I saw him take a picture of himself before crossing the finish line. "This is so going on my My Space, bitches!" |

The Jamaican dude threw away a much bigger WR, which could have stayed longer than the one he made. So he didn't care!? A smart athlete would make every effort to go all out (like Phelps) and obliterate the WR while getting a medal. Sometimes showboating (which shows bad sportsmanship, IMO) during an event can also make one lose. Just look at the Serbia guy in Phelp's race. He glided to the finish thinking he had it. He should have pushed himself all the way. Oh well, enjoy second bub. |

Fucking foreigners. I really don't get the people who wanted Phelps to fail because NBC was talking about him all the time. Last I knew, Phelps wasn't in charge of NBC. Good for him for winning everything. I imagine he and Lochte will now spend the rest of the Olympics drinking and getting laid. |

You think kids are going to take up swimming because of Phelps?
Swimming is the most boring thing you can do. At least in distance running, you can look around and drink water once in a while. In swimming, you are underwater, have to control your breathing. And if you swim the backstoke, you can breath more, but you can't see where the hell you're going. Most of these swimmers are OC types big time. Phelps is OC, but also has ADD, and, along with size fourteen feet, that is a recipe for a superstar. But swimming is boring. No shit, it really is. |
