Well NBC's golden boy delivered. I was almost hoping they would lose just so there would be some surprise. Maybe now NBC will stfu about how great and
"unprecendented" Michael's accomplishments are. NBC just makes me want to gag. I am addicted to the online streaming, mainly because it has no
screaming announcers, desperately trying to create a touching story about some table tennis player who's mom died when he was a kid. I just want to see
what's going on, I don't care about the "inspirational" bullshit.

Congratulations to Michael Phelps! Even without NBC reminding us of his quest to win 8, his accomplishment has made these Olympics for me. I tune in for
greatness, not to see an almost 40-year old record maintained. Congrats to Dara Torres, Jason Lezak, Aaron Peirsol and Natalie Coughlin and all the other
superb American swimmers.
Congratulations to Usain Bolt! He made that world record run look like a jog down the street. If the U.S. can't win in a sprint, I'm glad for the Jamaicans (and I can do that, since I was born there, so suck it bitches). The 200 m is supposed to be his better event, so you know I'll be chceking for that. |

i just flipped over to the west coast feed. they are showing the women's heptathlon. the womens are now throwing a javelin...
(that's like a spear to the un-heptathlon among y'all.) i finally figured out how i could assist our olympic effort. i could date each and every one of our heptathlon athletes. and then on the day of their "spear chucking" event, i could stand like 10 meters beyond their personal best and profess my undying love for them. i am sure each and every one of these women would attempt (and probably) pierce me through the heart with that spear, subsequently surpassing their personal best and winning at least that event. that would be my olympic sacrifice... |

The stupid ott NBC hype shouldn't take away from the actual accomplishment, which is incredible. I am not a Bob Costas fan and never will be. He asks stupid, mundane questions and always looks so tiny it seems like his feet don't touch the floor when he's sitting. |

Usain Bolt of Jamaica rules the world and he didn't even have to try!
Another two medals for Canada: a bronze in swimming (can't remember which metre it was), and a gold in the men's eight person rowing. I see that we are really good with the rowing so hopefully we'll get a few more medals out of that one. I was watching track and feild and we were this close to winning the bronze in the men's disc throwing. Like .1 metre or something. But we seriously suck at track and field. Thank goodness swimming is over. I really like the sport but I got so fed up with the whole Phelps coverage. I think he did a really good job, but it was serious overkill for me. |

I loathe NBC, too, but I think they've kept the schmaltz to a minimum this time around.
As for the unprecedented-class stuff, well... it is. ETA: what's wrong with US rowing? I think that's the first race I've seen with a 'murican boat in the finals. I thought we normally pretty good at this stuff.
