I just don't get the scoring. Chinese had steps on their landings.....and got 16s. Our guys were amazing, stuck their dismounts, and got 15s. I'm
confused!
Did they show the other medal ceremonies (Coughlin, etc) or not? I like Phelps-he's alot humbler than Carl Lewis (HA!) or Mark Spitz. He's amazing. |

"sticking a landing" is something we all love but in scoring, landing steps only mean a .1-.3 deduction.
its mostly about the crazy shit they do in the routine. and those chinese are fucking insane... |

I'm just now over my Mole-induced reverie.
Yeah, this new scoring sucks. What up with Nadia scoring a perfect 10? Anyhow, although I have no idea what's happening, the US mens gymnastics are threatening? Cool. ETA: so the US goes floor excercises then pommel horse for their final rotation? Right? What do the Chinese do next?

Yes- US finishes at Pommel but China & Japan go to highbar which sucks because they will both do well there where the US will struggle. BUT, the reality
is that both China & Japan already got through Pommel... so... you have to do them all at some point.
eta- the new scoring makes sense- you can still get a perfect 10 in execution. No one ever does. Just like it rarely happened before. The difference now is that you can make up crazy points for difficulty (like the Chinese men did in the parallel bars). The harder your routine & the more tricks you throw & complete the better your score is going to be. If you don't get deductions (there's that execution score) you'll also get a high second score. The second score is more consistent with what you're used to seeing... you'll see a lot of 8's... 9's on routines that you thought looked really spectacular- just like the old days. But that first score can really be anything.

What a disappointing day for the Japs? I thought they were out of it early on, same as USA.
Anyhow I love WW2 finales. I hope they get film of these guys in the Yangtze. Somehow I think alcohol will be involved. (OG -- fat fuck didn't truly register on my radar until 4 weeks ago. Odd season, but no Mole season is ordinary.) |
