And no, there isn't less competition now so ratings should be higher - there was nothing on in the winter as well. At least it is doing AWESOME compared to The Mole. anyway I can't see CBS ditching it just yet, it's too much of a cash cow and most of the other networks would jump at the chance to have it. I'm sorta expecting an All-Tards 2 or Fans vs Favs next season as a potential last hurrah or last ditch attempt to revive it...and of course Celeb BB will be thrust upon us before it officially dies.

Its lost over half its audience. I think it's pretty much done. Compare the numbers for all network shows for what they got in 2003 and what they get now in 2008 and you'll see a similar decline. Maybe not for the top 10 shows on all of TV, but all network shows have been hemoraging viewers big time. Comparing BB's ratings for now versus 2003 is just not a legitimate argument in my view. Compare it against current shows now instead.

From Zap2It: "Big Brother 10," 3.8/7, kept CBS in the lead at 8 p.m. NBC moved up to second with a repeat of "America's Got Talent," 3.3/6. The premiere of "High School Musical: Get in the Picture" failed to capture the "HSM" magic and posted only a 2.4/4. "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill" averaged 2.2/4 for FOX, beating "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Aliens in America" on The CW. So if last Wednesday's episode tied for the lowest BB ratings ever, I guess that means that last nights show set a new low record? Well I think it's pretty safe to assume that there will be no more winter BB editions (based on the comment the RealityBBQ spoiler "CornerOfficeX" made about how for another winter BB to happen, the ratings for BB10 needed to be HUGE). I just hope that this doesn't mean we won't get a BB11 EVER. This is pretty disappointing. I can't really explain why, but for some reason I was just expecting BB10 to do really, really well.

So many people Tivo, watch online or On Demand AND plenty of people aren't even included including in ratings. It's bullshit, and it doesn't matter, Big Brother makes most of it's money from the Live Feed subscribers anyways.

From RealityBlurred: ABC's High School Musical competition debuts with low ratings, Big Brother down 10 percent Last night, ABC debuted a reality TV version of its excessively successful High School Musical franchise, but High School Musical: Get in the Picture debuted to the second-lowest premiere numbers of the summer. While 5.5 million viewers watched its lead-in, America's Funniest Home Videos, just 4 million people watched the reality show, which airs its second episode tonight at 8 p.m. ET. Variety doesn't give details, but reports that High School Musical "did well enough among kids but didn't bring in enough of their parents." In the same hour, Big Brother 10 beat ABC's show and won the hour, but "lost about 10% of its viewers and demo adults from last week," according to TV By the Numbers. Only 5.77 million viewers watched, down about half a million from last Sunday's debut.

Most TV shows and channels are down in viewers. So that could help big brother or not.

Like others have said BB9 was crap and I think that hurt it too, the once a year on t.v. thing is the best thing for this sort of highly repetitive show structure. People will tire even faster from it seeing it more than once a year. Yes, ratings are down, but this show isn't doing well at all. Barely getting 6 mil. This show will be cancelled once it loses the 18-49 demo consistently thoughout the series. Hopefully ratings balance out for the latter part of the series, it tends to pick up viewers as time goes on.

I think it sticks around because it is cheaper to make then most scripted shows and fills in three hours of television a week. I think they would potentionally put it on VH1 or another network before permantely canceling it like the sureal life, because of the money they make off of the live feeds.

More people are spending less time watching TV and more time on the internet, etc. People have more options then TV. Lost was only getting 11 million viewers, that's hell of a lot more expensive to produce then Big Brother. Also doesn't it usually take a few weeks for BB ratings to go up, it always starts out slow and then rises.
