I can see why people don't like Dan, but I never get the "he doesn't do anything" criticism. I didn't bother to reply in the hate thread because most of the time I think it's fair to let people use a hate thread to hate. I just don't see where he is playing a particularly poor type of UTR game. He's survived more obstacles than anyone left in the house, between his friendship with Brian, his AP role/voting Jessie out, and Renny's lack of trust in him possibly leading her to put him up if he hadn't won veto. He didn't get past all of this because he stayed quiet, he did it because he managed to work the right relationships in the house all while knowing what to say and what not to say. He's currently being discussed the least for eviction, and even though that can change on a dime, I think it shows the success of the steps he's taken.

He does have to win more comps and make sure he has the right allies (I think Keesha is a solid ally but if she gravitates to Jerry then Dan will be screwed over), but he's done a better job of that than many in the house, a better job of balancing the two. Look at Michelle, who has won a POV and an HOH, and who was in a very good game position only last week, then trampled all over that by working so hard for April to stay. Now if she doesn't win HOH (which she easily could, of course), she has a huge chance of going next.

I think so much focus has been put on comps and on being an in-your-face player that the quieter aspects of the game have been ignored. A lot of people go on the show just to go on TV, but Dan actually seems to love the game itself.

I didn't mean to sound hypocritical, since I do post in the hate thread sometimes. I couldn't help posting to say I disagreed with Dan being the producer favorite, since I think Jerry fills that role (my strong loathing of Jerry probably helps sway my opinion). I just didn't respond to the gameplay stuff because then it would turn into bickering and people saying a hate thread is about hating and leave the hate alone. I guess responding to the favorite stuff could have had the same result. I just don't see Dan as getting some sweetheart edit. I mean it's nice that they don't twist his words into a pretzel to make him look horrible, but most of the time I think they just give him a fair edit, they show him as what he is.

That's so nice. I don't know how kind or fair I am though. The Dan hate isn't that bad anyway, even the Pepaw hate isn't on the level of some of the craziness of the Dick/Jen wars.

I know some people think Dan is focused on too much in the episodes since he isn't causing drama, but he's been a big part of most of the drama (his alliance imploded in week 1, nominated week 2, AP and got rid of Jessie week 4, Judas week 5, POV winner week 6) every week but the one where Angie left.

I do think he sometimes goes with the flow too much, instead of being more overt the way Michelle or Keesha are, but it's hard to know where the line is.
