#2 Jen vs The Donatos (BB8)

This rivalry was the THE plotline of BB8 for over a month, and Dick and Jen became the two most loved and hated people in the house, leaving everone else in the shadows. We've never had rivals getting nommed week after week and surviving. Never has a Survivor or BB rivalry been so overtly nasty, with Dick's verbal and physical abuse of Jen and Dani's sexual jealously over Nick.
Dick was essentially an overbearing alliance leader in the tradition of Jase and Cappy. He made Howie's tactic of "Going Busto" into a weekly thing, using it to rattle people before comps and bully people he didn't like. Yet somehow he managed to be popular with viewers because of a "perfect storm" of factors. First, editing pimped the twist of an allegedly estranged father and daughter in the house, with much sentimental BS. Second, his daughter had a showmance with Nick which was swooned over by fans hoping for the next Winelle. Third, Dick attracted certain fans simply by being an enetrtaining asshole.
Jen had a storyline much like Janelle, only more so. She was the beatiful model picked on be JENealous hhousemates, the plucky underdog enduring pranks by America's Player and getting herslf vetoed off the block 3 weeks in a row. She was fun and resilient, enjoying the Uniard and the Bunny Suit and enduring weeks on slop. She also had a Chilltown flair for self-promtion with her Jenuine and Jenius shirts.
Jen 's rivalry with Dick was overdetermined. He chained smaked, she couldn't stand cigarette fumes. She slept in the HOH week one and became friends with Kail, he plotted against Kail's alliance. Middle-aged Dick still thought he was a sexual playa, Jen found him totally disguusting. Daniele had a thing for Nick, and Jen did too.
Week 1 - Dick starts verbal abuse of Jen.
Week 2 - Jen wins Hoh and noms Daniele who wins veto, and Dick who survives vote
Week 3 - Dick wins HOH , noms Jen who wins veto, and Kail who survives vote.
Week 4 - Dick gets LNC to nom Jen, who secures veto, and Kail who survives vote.
Week 5 - Danielle wins HOH, noms Jen who wins veto, and Kail who doesn't survive vote
Week 6 - Dick and Danielle nommed by LNC, Dick vetoes Dani and then is saved by America's Player.
Week 7 - Daniele wins HOH and backdoors Jen
Dick's treatment of Jen and Kail had ugly overtones of woman abuse. This rivalry wasn't good clean fun. Dick would ask Jen and others about very personal and sexual matters, and use anything they revealed in his nasty tirades. He dumped tea on Jen's head in week 4, in an argument rooted in simple bitterness and that Jen had been vetoed and Dani's boyfriend got backdoored. And he tried to burn Jen with his cigarettes when she finally lashed out and destroyed his smokes in week 7.
Outcome: Jen would have outlasted Dick if the DR hadn't first intervened to save America's Player from the Donatos in Week 5 (at Kail's expense), then pressured AP to betray his allaince and save Dick in Week 6. Jen survived long enough for Dick and the LNC to turn on each other, but the "forced re-allignment" left her as the obvious target again.
Dick won the game, despite Jen voting against him. Jen got some revenge when he was allowed to dunk Dick on her way out of the house. And she ultimately got the guy too. Nick's showmance with "cheater" Daniele didn't work out postshow, and he and Jen are now living happily together in Arizona, where they share ownership of a Siamese cat named Jasmine.
I'd have loved Jen and hated Dick even if the other didn't exist. But without the rivalry, I'm not sure if Jen would be my #1 BB fave and Dick would be my most hated reality person of all time. The rivalry between Dick and Jen fans was intense and reduced the BB forum to a flame war zone, until finally the admins created a sub-forum to pack away all the BB8 battles.
