A hobby of mine has been studying sharks for quite a few years now. I have been in the shark cages in Hawaii and been down to Fiji as well.
Any surfers here with any tales? Fisherman?

This one time? A shark bit me on the arm and wouldn't let go until I bit the shark. Then I cooked the shark and everyone ate some but they bamboozled me
anyway.
At least I think that was me. |

I've come face to face with two 6 ' reef sharks on separate occasions. Pretty freaky.

I've only seen sharks at the aquariums, I think I'd have a panic attack if I saw one in the water near me.

I got swiped on the leg by one off the coast of Sao Paulo.
Oh, wait. That was a Sea Turtle. Never mind. |

We had about 20 Galapagos sharks and another 15 or so 'brownies' or sand bar sharks. No Tigers or Whites that day. I could see the surfers on the pipeline...too funny. My wife got zapped by a blue bottle (Portugese man-o-war) and we had to come out. 2 hours in the cages.. |

I was more scared when a manatee sidled up beside me. I was unfamiliar and didn't have my prescription mask and thought a whale/walrus had escaped from
Seaworld and was about to call me dinner. The only time I crapped my pants though was when I got caught on a reef and tossed around pretty good until I rolled
my way off. That was some scary shit and when it was all over...............well, it was either relief I was still alive or the Mexican food.

Manatee or 'sea cow'...can you believe 'they' supposidly mistook them for mermaids?
I mean I bang a few hogs in college...even copious amounts of rum couldn't mistake this..
for this
Reef sharks could certainly do damage if they bite you in the right spot. There is a shark research station in Bimini that tags tiger sharks to tests shark repellant. I was going to volunteer for a summer...but work got in the way. |

experiances? experiences Sharks scare the living shit out of me more than anything in this world. If I came across one while swimming, I just have no idea hwo I'd react. I'd probably just freeze up and die before it even gets a bite out of me. |

Last summer, we saw a shark. Scared the crap out of me, and trying to calmly get the kids out of the water wasn't easy.
The lifeguard at first thought it was a manatee, but that silly dorsal fin proved him wrong. I now stay closer to shore. |

"Where were you? How deep, etc? "
The first time I was snorkling about 50 yards offshore in Roatan. We were swimming from an access beach to the crowded reef, when my husband left me alone to go move our things. It makes you realize how you would react in a given situation. First I spotted a sting ray lift off from the ocean floor, then the shark swam in, looked right in my face, then took off after the ray. I very slowly turned my back on the situation and made my way to shore, not knowing if I'd make it or not. The second time was offshore Cozumel from a dive boat, so I trusted the divemaster had the situation in hand. |

I just have no idea hwo
----------------------- how see how that works? anywho..any shark over 6 feet is potentially dangerous. However, there are about 10 species that you should only really be concerned with. the most dangerous (IMHO) is the Bull Shark. It is Hypersaline-meaning it can breathe fresh and salt water...it is a confirmed man-killer-and they attack..and keep attacking...not like a white shark that (usually) hits and leaves. This weekend is the anniversary of my states White shark deaths that lead to the book Jaws. 1. Beach haven, NJ (Long beach Island) fatal attack 1916 July 3rd?? 2. a few days later in Spring Lake, NJ Fatal attack, both legs severed 3. panic causes people to flee the shore..12 miles inland on Matawaan Creek a boy, Lester Stillwell is killed by a shark in a rivier that leads to the ocean. Man (Charles Bruder) jumps in to find his body. he is savaged by the shark and killed. panic installs...another boy -aas he is fleeing up the ladder in the river about 100 yards downshore...loses his leg tothe shark. a 8 foor white shark is caught in Raritan bay (near the Verrezanno Bridge) and killed. no more attacks until1960. Peter Benchely-while working for the NYTimes..meets Frank Mundus-great white shark humter out of Long Island...(who I have spoken to) He writes Jaws based on Jersey attacks and Mundus accounts (Quint is based on Frank Mundus) the rest is history |

Did Frank deliver the bomb?
How many men went into the water that day? That's my favorite part. |

I live on the Florida Gulf coast (where Jaws II was filmed).
What the fuck do you think? We see sharks just abut every time we go in the water. |
