But back to Yellowstone. Cool place. Apparently for those that don't know, it's some kind of old volcano that erupted and then the whole area of yellowstone is sort of collapsed into what they call a caldera, and in various places in yellowstone you can actually see the earth's gases and stuff bubbling up. (I'm sure if my husband read this description he would tell me I'm retarded and give you the real, scientific, geological version, but you get the idea).
The area smells of sulfur all over from the gases and stuff. Also, there is a lot of cool wildlife. I was mostly interested in the wildlife, husband was mostly interested in the volcanic stuff. So here's some pictures:
When we first drove into Yellowstone, we saw this cutie walking along the side of the road. (You can always tell when there's wildlife up ahead cause about a million cars are pulled over to snap pictures):
The next few pics are bubbling pots, and such as you find around Yellowstone. Apparently if you touch them, you get burned as their temperature is way above
our boiling point:
This next one is really cool. It's called the Dragon's Mouth because it spits out gases all the time and makes this really weird sound like
there's a dragon inside:
We saw a lot of Elk (I was sad we didn't see any Moose):
And the very most cool thing we saw right next to our car:
While waiting for Old Faithful to erupt we saw a geyser called Beehive Geyser erupt. The Park Ranger said we got lucky because it only erupts once a day and
it is very random and unpredictable:
And then we saw Old Faithful. I did a 60 second movie on my camera, but somehow it got deleted so all I have of it is this picture and another one I took on
my cell phone. So this really doesn't do it justice, but here it is:
And after sitting in the car all day the dogs decided they had had enough and took off without us:
