If animal rights types had any real conviction they would target the Halal slaughterhouses here in the west.
But that won't happen. Halal and Kosher slaughter 'must end' |

It says cattle can take up to two minutes to bleed to death - amounting to an abuse of the animalsPeople are getting upset over 2 minutes of so-called suffering? |

I've been vegetarian for 20+ years. It was a gradual transition (decreasing acceptance of different meats over about a year) without a predetermined goal
of becoming vegetarian; it could be summarized as for ethical reasons.

I went cold turkey one day about 15 years ago after seeing a documentary with graphic footage of how animals are really being treated. I'd known before
that that it wasn't pretty, of course, but actually seeing it forced me to let go of my denial. I just couldn't justify being part of the demand for
that supply. So, yes, it was for ethical reasons and ethical reasons only.
My personal view is that animals are not ours to do with as we wish, but I do get annoyed at the really militant among the vegetarians and vegans who seem to think that people can be shamed and/or shocked into not eating meat. It's something you have to come to on your own. Once I came to it, and my heart was really in it, it was very easy to stop eating meat. We all have to pick our battles. Being veg is one of my battles, but I accept that it isn't everyone's. |

As far as animals not being ours to do as we wish.... what do you think the population numbers of cows, sheep, chickens and pigs would be if not for the fact we eat them. They'd rival Buffalos on the endangered species list. |

I'll just add, I am no fan of factory farms. I am a big fan of natural/traditional farming for both livestock and veggies/fruits/grains from a health
standpoint, but the PETA vids and other activist clips tend to be exceptions if real, in some cases frauds from eastern europe backwater towns, and staged
kills.
When rotten acts happen even in factory slaughter ops, owners get angry because it is against their self interest to do this. It is usually assine, moron employees not following rules. |

why is it that the majority of vegetarian women I've seen weigh over 200lbs? I don't think I've ever seen a fat vegetarian. Maybe I have and didn't know it. PETA makes everything worse for us animal lovers. They should be shot. Or butchered inhumanely! |

why is it that the majority of vegetarian women I've seen weigh over 200lbs? I certainly have, and I agree with Jakob's statement. More than the carbs, it's the sauces and crap they put on their food that makes them fat, along with cheese. Fettuccine Alfredo has no meat. It's probably hard for a vegan to be fat, but if you just skip meat there's no guarantee that you'll be thin. |

he lost me at the laughable idea that no caffeine makes you feel better....
I'm on my third espresso and this one is a double. The only thing better than the feeling of that first morning coffee's caffeine entering your central nervous system is great sex. |

I'm not reading this whole thread, but I'll assume this point has already been made: If you become a vegetarian for "ethical reasons" you are
a gigantic fucking pussy.

I know several fat vegetarians, there are a lot of Seventh Day Advenist people around here and they do not believe in killing so they don't eat meat, but
they sure do eat. Bean buttittos covered in cheese and sour cream and guacomoli, mc and cheese, and just tons of carbs oh and candy. I used to work with a few
SDA vegetarians, they were hefty.

I know a TON {no pun intented} of HUGE womyn that are lacto/ovarian veggies. Too much cheese, rice, sour cream, pasta & potatoes.
One of them just spent $600 on a LEATHER purse. If you aren't gonna eat meat for ethical reasons, you should forgo ALL animal products. That being said, I am frying up some bacon RIGHT NOW. |

The main reason not to eat meat is because it's unhealthier than a veggie diet. Meat is more difficult for the body to digest and produces toxins in the
gut which become stored in the body fat. Meat contains dangerous additives like hormones and steroids, it contains disease, it messes with hormones, it clogs
pores, it makes people fatter, it decreases sperm count and sex drive, it increases stress and tiredness, and it's linked to many diseases.
