Pretty much every canadian I know who made that colossal mistake has ended up with a texan. (even here, see buggles, corky etc) It's like you guys are a forgotten province or something! That should make you beam with pride!

Like way too low. Like a room last night off Expedia was $97 and in my system, it was originally supposed to be $209. Tonight the expedia rate is closer to that but there are some deals out there right that management is soon going to put a stop to. You can get eaten by a bear anywhere. There was one on the train tracks 50 feet from the crossing two months ago. You have to watch out for cougars too. They stalk you. Are you coming to this area? How long for?

There was one on the train tracks 50 feet from the crossing two months ago. So I guess if you're gonna have a happy period,-Always, you should probably delay the trip by a week or so then? I work with a woman whose husband was mauled by a bear over around there years ago (black bear I think) when he was a boy scout. The training in the scouts works I guess because even when he was 11 he knew to play dead. The bear tore his scalp and pulled it down over his face pretty much before everyone started screaming at the bear and made him get the fuck out of there.

That pretty much makes them way scarier than a loud ass clumsy bear. Why elk though? I guess if you drove your mustang into the side of one it would fuck up your car, but do they have the same temper as a moose? Now there's an animal you do not want to piss off.

They've gotten a bunch of dogs lately in Canmore and have gotten really close to some kids. Around here, we usually just see a dead deer killed by a cougar over by the rec grounds. Actually, strike that: The cougar alert was issued after a deer carcass, which had been feasted on by a cougar, was found in a high human use area near Middle Springs behind Kootenay Avenue on June 16. Just one day earlier, a cougar came within 20 feet of a man who was lying on the ground taking photographs of wildflowers between Two Jack Lake and Lake Minnewanka. Cougar activity around the town of Banff has not been as high since the winters between 1999 to 2001, at which time cougar stalked and killed cross-country skier Frances Frost near Lake Minnewanka. A cougar with two kittens is using the Cascade corridor; another cougar with two kittens lives in the Sunshine area, while a third wildcat with a young one has been hanging around the Banff Springs golf course region. Bears if you're lucky, you'll usually smell them before you see them. But a lot of times, bikers just drive right up around a corner and there they are. Bear 71 and her cubs are on the move and Bear 102 moved into her place. There are trail closures and stupid kids are removing warning tape from trails. Also more bears this year around the Nordic Centre where the Olympics were. It's the frisbee golf course in the summer so that sucks. Ooooooooo fun story. A couple weeks ago, there was a guy camping alone at the lake and a grizzly poked his head into the guy's tent. Elk will charge during rutting season and calving season. There have been stupid tourists caught attempting to put their 3 y/o child on the back of one like a pony. Also they've tried to poke a bear with a hockey stick to make it stand up like a circus bear.

It got so bad that we made sure there was always a couple rifles handy. (hidden from the Man and inspectors) The third night I picked off 3 out 5 who were circling us. We eliminated a good 15 wolves over the first year. No problems since. I don't understand the opposition to the wolf cull in Alberta. Fuckers are everywhere - killing livestock and wildlife everywhere you go. I don't fear bears, wolf packs, hoo yeah!

The Fairholme pack between Canmore and Banff and then a couple north of us but that's about it. Between 3 and 6 in the pack.

I never EVEN want to begin to know what a fight or flight response would be right there and then in that situation. Either way, you'd need a change of clothes. jakob, when we were out on the acreage the coyotes would howl like 2 feet from the house at times, but I've never ever heard of a wolf anywhere near, anywhere around here. Are you talking about Fort Mac, Zama, or somewhere way up north?

Coyotes avoid people. Wolves like to circle and pick off stragglers. When we would have just 2 or 3 guys alone in the evenings, it wasn't uncommon for 5 to 10 of the uglies to test us. Bears tend to scramble when they hear a nail gun firing, or warning shots. Wolves lower their heads and move in. Truly scary. They don't always retreat after you shoot one. We're celebrating Canada Day at the only bar here that acknowledges it. The owner is apparently quite excited that we will be bringing a real live Canadian to the party, so we're going to milk that for all it's worth and hope to end up just as drunk if not more so than last year when we were actually in Canada. Then a few days to recoup before the real holiday on Friday.

When you dock in SAINT JOHN, make sure you go to the City Market. Make sure to buy nose plugs, the Irving paper refiney literally makes the whole city smell like shit. Local customs - make sure you tell everyone you meet that the Loyalists were all a bunch of mother fucking traitors. The local Mcdonalds is two blocks down the street. We speak Franglais - deal with it. A Newfie is an Indian/Cape Breton half Breed. This is all you need to know.
