that used to be par for the course back in the 70s - the opening act would totally eclipse the second act - I saw Black Sabbath as an opening act in the early
70s and can't even remember who they opened for.

I'm going to see fake-Styx and pseudo-Boston on Sunday night. The good part is that it's at a casino and there will be beer. The bad part is everything
else.

Nothing beats Dave Matthews at Alpine Valley. Alpine Valley is just a great venue in general.

This is easy - Brian Wilson at Massey Hall in Toronto performing the album "Smile" end to end with an 18 (!!) piece band.
I walked out of that show in a haze, and said to my friends "Not only is that the greatest show I have ever seen, it's the best show I WILL ever see." I mean...a living legend performing one of the great lost works of 20th century music, a week after the album was released after it was shelved for 37 years?!?!?!?! What's better than that? |

ACG2003 wrote:I was there! We drove from west FW and my car overheated in Arlington because traffic was at a crawl. We got pushed by the pickup behind us all the way to the Cotton Bowl. One of the local residents felt sorry for us and let us push the car into his driveway. I left it there for two weeks before having it towed. We took a cab back home that night and paid the cabbie with a baggie of the green stuff and a 10 dollar bill. Good times... |

Edit: In Las Vegas, seeing them was part of my 21st birthday. So yeah, that was in 2005.

I think Alpine Valley sucks as a concert venue. Especially if it has rained within a week of any concert. It's mudslide central!
The acoustics are crap unless the wind is coming a certain direction and half the time you can hear the concert better if you are in a neighborhood adjacent to Alpine instead of actually there. |

I went to LA last summer to visit a girlfriend and we saw Stevie Wonder at the Greek Theatre. It was fucking AWESOME.

A rockabilly group called The Blasters totally brought the house down at the Keystone in Palo Alto. The dancing was wall-to-wall -- I sweated at least 10 lbs.
Awesome time.
Being front row when Chuck Berry opened for the Grateful Dead was equally thrilling. The Dead were dead that today -- too bad. |

Come to think of it, seeing Bo Diddley on the campus of U of Chicagto back around 1980 was pretty awesome.
