I've always been a fan of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" since I first came across it in like 7th grade--not just because of the idea, but also because of how it was written and how the tension builds. That and I was a weird kid. But I think my favoritest has to be a story I recently found..."Big Me" by Dan Chaon. He seems to write in the way I think, and it's a story I feel I can relate to on some levels. Also a fan of Jamaica Kinkaid's "What Have I Been Doing Lately," if anything just because it's awesomely surreal.
Those are probably my three most favorite short stories, but there are some others I like that I can't think of right now. John Updike's "A&P" (I think that's what it's called) comes to mind. Dubliners has some good stuff too.
