I think it's normal to never see something before you've seen it. Pretty sure anyway. You may want to check the local laws in your area though.smart. the crickets I meant. has anyone else ever had these things in their basement, or are they some sort of freak mutation from the depths of hell? |

I despise those bugs. I know people who live in those areas just grin and bear it when they swarm but it can ruin a vacation.

As soon as I saw the first pic in this thread I immediately jumped up and stood on my chair. F*CK!!! Then I could've sworn I felt something on my shoulder 2 seconds later. F*CK!!! I hate bugs!! Those looks pretty gross. I can't believe you woke up with one on your face. I wouldn't have been able to sleep for at least a week. Ewww!!! My most hated thing in the world are actually potato bugs. God, damn they are so f*ckin gross. Is it true that they make sounds when you step on them? I heard they sound like children crying or something like that, that's why they're called "ninos de la tierra" in Spanish (directly translated: children of the dirt). But, yeah. I've had a couple of horrible experiences with them. The earliest was back when I was about 7 or 8 years old...I was sitting at my desk finishing up some book report on a warm spring night. As I was about to get up, I began to put my bare feet on the floor when I felt something warm on graze the arch and heard something that sounded like a light buzz sound. I immediately knew what it was and felt a chill down my spine...so, my knee hits the desk as I try to jump back and not touch the damn floor...I move my seat far enough back so that I could get a look at WTF it was I almost stepped on...I see one of those vile creatures and run to my mom in the living room. My dad had just left for work (he used to work graveyard shift) and we didn't' know what to do. Neither of us wanted to step on it and kill it. So, she did the next best thing, she used the vacumm cleaner to suck it up. End of story. I think she made my dad change the vacumm bag later that month too. LoL. Anywho, to this very day, I never sit at my desk barefoot or with my feet on the ground. If they are on the ground, I either have shoes, slippers or sandals on. I've been traumatized for life. |

Living in the South, the occasional big-ass cockroach is just inevitable. If you can keep them out of your house, well, they are right outside ON your house.
Most of the time, I'm pretty nonchalant about them, but I lose my fucking mind when they take flight. They always aim straight for my head.
I've found that full-strength undiluted peppermint castile soap works just as well as bug spray for killing them, and no worries about getting something poisonous on your counters or dishes or around pets or whatever. I am okay with most bugs, generally, but I cannot deal with house centipedes (pic) or firebrats (pic). Fuck that shit. House centipedes have too goddamn many legs and firebrats bite. |

It has no effect on the bugs. I'll bet those bugs serve a purpose in nature....like hyenas. Just accept them as a neccesary evil. |

I hate palmetto bugs. I had nightmares about them when I was a kid after being chased by them.
Roaches are bad enuf. Now just super size them and give them wings = palmetto bugs. |

June bugs creep me out, too. They always fly straight for my hair.
Re: palmetto bugs: We went on vacation at Hilton Head a few years back with 3 other couples. The first night we heard a bunch of banging and moaning and figured the couple in the room next to us were getting bizzay. Next day, we learned that when they opened the closet door, a swarm of palmetto bugs as long as your middle finger came boiling out. The banging was our friend Alan trying to kill them with his shoe, and the moaning was his princess wife cowering in abject terror. He was known as Cockroach Man for the rest of the vacation. |
