The Descent is probably one of the scariest films I saw in theatres, in recent years.YES! I screamed and cowered. And for whatever reason, The Amityville remake really creeped me out. Watching it on DVD, not so much...but I remember legitimately being scared after seeing it in the theatre. |

An old Edward Woodward movie creeped the bejaysus out of me. Can't recall the name.
As a young one, It the Terror From Beyond Space (the original Alien) scared me mightily. Just saw it and laughed. I was frightened by that? As for recent movies, not too much. I find the old B&Ws more effective. |

Silence of the Lambs is another great horror movie. I think that is one of the movies that I could watch over and over. The sequels/prequels involving Hannibal
Lectur were a let down.

I find Silence of the Lambs to be so overrated. I did not find it to be scary or entertaining I will never understand why it's widely considered a classic.

The first horror movie I remember seeing in theaters as a kid was Prophecy. I slept on the floor by my parents bed that night. I had nightmares after the first
Nightmare on Elm Street, the rest suck ass. I thought Thirteen Ghosts and The Hills Have Eyes were pretty good as far as the scare factor goes.

I re-watched Near Dark last night. Pretty good vampire movie. Not overly scary but the little kid vampire is a creepy little fuck.

Dead Silence had some�chilling scenes which could put a scare into someone viewing it alone. Beware the stare of Mary Shaw She had no children, only dolls And if you see her in your dreams Be sure you never, ever scream S. |

I have Dead Silence on our DVR but never got around to watching it. Another decent under-rated film is Ravenous w/ Guy Pearce. It plays on IFC like every 5
minutes

I liked Ravenous. What a weirdo film. Also liked Ginger Snaps.
Was so happy to see uncut Alice, Sweet Alice recently. Now that movie is just a ringer! A "Catholics are insane or they will make you insane ringer" but great nonetheless. I wonder what people are going to be remaking 15 years from now? Besides The Descent, will there be anything left to remake, reimagine, reboot? I feel kind of sorry for the last couple/few generations of young people who did absolutely nothing original that defined them as a generation. Sad. |

Apparently they are making a remake to Alice, Sweet Alice. You'd think they'd run out things to remake/reboot ect. Studio's nowdays are leary of
making anything original, they just pump out remakes after remakes.

Nothing is untouchable in the land of Hollywood. They figure if it worked once, it'll work again, thus all the remakes/reboots. Once in awhile we are
treated to a great original horror film but those are rare. Still not all the remakes are horrible, once in awhile, you get a good one for the most part they
are dreadful.
Seraphaem stated it perfectly: These days they just crank out horror films like crappy Yugoslavian automobiles on an assembly line. Sure, they might give them a few shiny bolts and possibly a working radio that's capable of picking up FM, but the design is still the same, they break down easily and are hardly worth the money. |
