They've all passed away.
I was really close with my Dad's mom, I know that I was her favorite grandchild! I didn't like my grandpa from what I remember, he died when I was 3. I didn't know my Mom's dad that well, but my mom's mother moved in with us until she passed away. She was a hoot. We'd watch comedy central together and she'd tell the wittiest stories all the time. I wish I had gotten to know her more, but she lived in California when I was younger and well we live in Wisconsin so we only saw her about 6 times (for a few weeks each visit) before she moved in with us. |

Mine have been gone for quite some time. My dad's parents didn't care much for us, as we were city kids. My mom's parents were indifferent to us,
because they didn't care for kids.
I plan on being a terrific granny. Pinkie swear. |

Once my dad left I had no contact with the grandparents on his side. They are probably both dead by now. One of my aunts said they used to kick my dad's
ass on a regular basis when he was growing up, so no great loss.
Had no contact with my mom's dad since he was disowned when he started molesting my mother. My mom's mom was evil, her emotional cruelty was far worse than the beatings my mom used to hand out. I take great comfort in knowing that "Nana" smoked herself into an early grave after a long, painful, withering bout of lung disease. |

Although she was a drunk and has been dead for quite a while, I WAS CRAZY ABOUT MY NAN!!! [I was her favorite; she said as much all the time...] |

All six of them died within a few years of each other. I got along well with my mothers father and his wife. Hated my mothers mother and her husband.
Didn't really know my fathers parents because they didn't speak English and only visited the U.S. a few times.

dead (was a self entitled bitch), dead (never close, my solitary memory is us playing checkers once), dead (close, we used to play cards a lot, and spend
summer vacations together), alive (never close)

Paternal Grandfather was a race car driver and died when a car fell on him when a jack slipped. My dad was a teenager at the time. I don't have any other
info about him.
Paternal Grandmother owned a bar/restaurant in Texas and was the town skank because she divorced her second husband to marry her third husband. She had 3 sons.. each with a different father. She hated girls and never sent birthday/Christmas cards or gifts to the female grandkids.. just to the boys. Bitch. She did teach us how to play poker, Mile Bornes, Rook, Spades and Hearts. Maternal Grandfather was a Union Oil worker. We grandkids spent a lot of time at his house. He worked GRAVEYARD!!1!! He scared the shit out of me until I was older because I thought he worked in a graveyard! Grandma would tell us to be extra quiet so Granddad could sleep (duh! graveyard!). He was big, tall, loud and wore cowboy boots that made a funny sound on their hardwood floors. He was funny and loved watching baseball and the Grand Ol Opry. I loved my Granddad. He left me over $100,000 when he died. Grandma. Zula Belle (Zu). She was a saint. Poor old Grandma. She cooked, she cleaned, she loved, she worked her ass off her whole life. She lost her parents when she was 3. She had 10 brothers and sisters. Her brothers and sisters where all fostered out as she was when their parents died. She worked as a slave picking cotton for 10 cents a day for her foster family until she graduated high school. She worked 10 to 12 hour days her whole adult life in the canning rows in Santa Maria, CA. She baked from scratch and taught me most of what I know about cooking. She used a wringer washer until she was 60 and always line dried her laundry. She had a huge heart and never ending love for her grandkids. She used to make us kids Rootbeer floats, yellow cake with chocolate frosting from scratch and the best pot roast you ever had. I will never forget my Grandma. She died the night my son was conceived and that's my biggest regret. She would have loved him so much. |

I had a great relationship with them when they were alive. Luckily my paternal grandfather is still around, hanging in there at 95. His hearing and eyesight
are pretty bad, but he still lives on his own in his condo. My maternal grandparents both died of cancer in the 1980's and my paternal grandmother died in
'06 after a long bout of Alzheimer's.
I had some of the best times of my life going on trips with them. Ahhhhh...to be young again. |
