As far as dog training, you do need to make sure you can get your dog to respond without treats. Certain breeds are just going to be more stubborn, you have to be a little more assertive.

I was glad to see the crazy bitch go because I do think it would have been unfair to send home either of T/P or B/S. But if you're just here to see the
dogs, maybe you should watch animal planet, this is a reality show. They didn't just cast show dogs, they did this for the drama. You can't just have
everyone getting along great and them just doing the challenges. Do you know what that is called? It's called Big Brother 1.

I think overall the show strikes a pretty good balance. One part adorable dogs, one part showcasing loving or nutty owners, a dash of backstabbing and a
heaping helping of crazy-ass judging. Sometimes the show does piss me off (like when Tillman got the boot) but as a whole it's worth an hour a week for
me.
How many more weeks are left? |

Positive Training vs Compulsion/Old School | ||

Because the people in charge are obviously clueless about dog behavior and training that entire discussion was edited horribly. Positive reinforcement does
not mean "giving treats." It means rewarding the dog with whatever he or she desires. For some dogs praise will work, for others toys work great,
for others food works great, for others touch works great. It doesn't matter what the reward is. If you are giving it as payment for the dog performing
the work, it's positive reinforcement. There are some people (JD for example) who think that using food as a reward is different or lesser than using a
toy. And then those same people will carry a ball around in their pocket or bait their dog with the ball to keep it focused while performing. But god forbid
anyone have a food reward in their pocket! That is just shameful! Melarchy! Both are given as a reward to the dog to reinforce the behavior. A good trainer
uses whatever it is that motivates that individual dog. :)
Enjoy the show! |

After a while that schtick gets old. |

If it wasn't for Bill & Star, I wouldn't be watching. I know him and his family so every week I cheer them on. This week made me nervous.

the pack.
Tequila, but I liked BB1. Do I need an intervention? I watch this show for the dogs. The people are filler to me. I hated the love story they tried to
force feed us with Presley and Preston's people. I was hoping the show would be lots of normal dog challenges like agility, obedience/Rally-O, tricks,
frisbee, etc. and less owner drama. I guess it's been a decent mix so far with actually less drama than I had feared. Maybe it should be on Animal
Planet. I'd watch it there too. |

When my family took my dog for obedience training and we used positive re-inforcement. The trainer made it clear he did not like ot approve of negative
re-inforcement which does include some manhandling, and he said the same about the use of treats as part of the training either. He said if your going to train
a dog with treats the dog will learn to expect to get treats every time the dog does something that the owner wants him to do. The dog has to learn that he/she
is a good dog and is loved because he/she is doing what is supposed to do and not fattened for doing it. And I agree with it.
And thank G-D that crazy bat is gone. I feel vindication for the wrongful bottom 3 of Laura and Preston and their eventual eviction. That victory for crazy bitch is thankfully short lived. She is one of those people who only agrees with the judges if it benefits her and her alone. Whenever she gets into the bottom 3 she always has to disagree with them on everything. Presley or Star for the win. |

Just watched the latest episode. I liked this one much more than the previous two. I'm starting to like it again I guess. They're lucky I gave it
another shot.
Glad that Beth Joy and her "rescue dog with issue" are gone. |
