If a smoker dies of cancer at the early age of 50, he will cost the health care system a lot less than a non-smoker who lives to the age of late 80's or 90's, and who will have many more trips to the doctors, taking medications, having surgeries, what have you. Eventually he may even become a burden to his family, but sure as hell, he too will die... maybe of cancer. P.S. I'm not a smoker.
