He had to die because Desmond said he would and bad shit would happen if he (Desmond) continued saving him (Charlie). Oh and Charlie thought his death meant Claire would live. Still kinda confused about the helicopter stuff cuz she's in TwinPeaksVille now.... Plus, if he didn't lock it from the inside Desmond would have just opened it to try to see/talk to Penny, and then they both would have died. I had that thought too, alslans. Of course if he just saw a woman getting on a copter with Aaron, he would assume it was Claire.

Aaron was rescued by helicopter after all, so either his flash got all screwy because he kept manipulating the future OR as Aslans said, Desmond simply had it wrong and it was Kate not Claire. (not that they look alike or anything.. maybe he just clearly saw a female with the baby) OR maybe in Season 6, we do see Claire getting in a helicopter with her son. Only he's THIS BIG. He saw Penny on that monitor and wanted IN to talk to her. What proof are you talking about??? What chopper/Aaron scene? Desmond told Charlie about his flash, we didn't see it. It couldn't have happened any other way cuz that's how it was written! Charlie died. He ain't coming back.

My mother gives the exact same reason. When I saw this topic, I thought the "couple things" might be Rose and Bernard. Why are they on the show, anymore?
