Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a rather large part of the Survivor Fire board?

Even Sucksters who should know better are often suckers for editing. For example, everyone who thought Steph suddenly became a bitch in Guatemala rather than
getting a different edit because she was F2 loser rather than an underdog.

Of course, we have ingrained reflexes and know to look for patterns but at 9:00 PM, when the booted player has just given his final words, what did you think of the show? At that moment, you're as close to a casual fan as you'll ever be.It's re-watching the details of the episodes and comparing our notes to savvy or snarly posters on message boards that separate us from the casual fan. Of course, for others who fall in love with a participant's introduction video and will accept nothing less than seeing that player win, their fanaticism means they can never be casual fans. They are even less wise!! Speaking of Earl, I know casual fans who were afraid he'd be another hero they'd want to see win but would ultimately fall. They were terribly afraid the Final 3 would be Cassandra, Dreamz and... Stacy!! For those who know what to observe, Fiji wasn't edited to make us wonder who was going to win but rather it was to have us ask how could Earl win when everything seemed to be going against him. |

Agree with you Panurge that a fanatic can be less wise then a casual viewer. I never said that casual fans are dumb, they just look at it through rose colored
glasses. I look at the show clinically.I haven't always.I've had outbursts in the past at certain people getting voted out/winning that would frighten
a soccer hooligan. But my point about casual fans, and many people here too,is that they try to incorporate ethics into the game unnecessarily. Take the Hidden
Immunity Idol, why are there rules against stealling it? Most people say that the restriction against stealing it prevents thuggery in the game. Who cares? Its
not ones personal property nor does it have any sentimental value. If one were to steal someones picture of their grandma or something, maybe noone except
Fairplay and Richard would find that OK. People incororate there own ethics into the game, and by preventing theft of the idol, your undermining a dynamic of
the game. This is due to the casual fans view of Survivor as a sporting event, rather then the dynamic social experiment that it is. Its why Terry recieved
inordinate praise for being an awful player. Its why Parvati got muted appluse at her win. This is all strange to me,and I want to understand it.

Well, I have to admit one thing about my grandma she loves people who do deceitful things, and lie. After all her favourite player of all time is Jonny
Fairplay for his lie.

tainted than someone who never cared enough to get into the depth of things.

And I dide say that people here have prejudges,of course they do! We all have bias. But the way you here most people talk about Survivor, it makes it seem that there is an ingrained way of thinking how Survivor SHOULD be, rather then how it is. |

someone. How to make survivor watching more like someone who is simply watching a movie. The paragraph I quoted is completely different as I see you are simply
upset that the casual viewer's opinion, counting for the vast majority of the audience, reduces your enjoyment of the show.

Theres nothing I can say which will disvalue that the HII is personal property inside the game, subect to certain rules, but the way I see it, its time for some civil disobedience. Is the rule against stealing it ironclad, as, is it an integral rule? I don't see why it would be.
And don't be ridiculous, you can't compare violence to stealing the idol. Stealing the idol has no direct effect on the outside world, while the former does. If Survivor is supposed to be a kind of exaggerated libertarian model, then why not embrace the defense of your "property"? |

My dad and neghbors are casual fans.
Dad-doesn't like it when people strategize and manipulate but thinks all players should expect it and calls everyone who gets blindsided stupid. Neighbors- were rooting for ozzy the whole time and I gloated when he got blindsided and they thought Cirie deserved to win out of final 4, but rooted for Amanda over parv so I don't know what the judge likability on. |

To me, real means not being a fake when it comes to interacting with other people.

Amanda definitely comes across to me as one of the least "real" contestants the show has ever had, and it looks like most of this season's jury
felt the same way.
I guess that explains why she has so many fans. Boring and fake, just like 90% of the American populace. |

Its kind of amusing. Those who claim to "hate" Amanda most are so invested in her that they have to thread-jack each thread and make it about her.
