This is a throwaway term but we have to admit that Sucks is a small minority. My experiance with other Survivor fans is limited(oh sure,I know people who watch
it, but I've never gotten around to asking there thoughts on the show, etc). This thread is basically a way for me to understand how the "casual
fans" mind works. Anyone who knows people who watch the show on/off,could you explain how they see the show? I started the thread because reading over
various Survivor discussion groups online,I noticed how many people were suprised Amanda didn't win and I was like,WTF?

Well I consider my grandparents casual fans. They though Amanda was going to win as well. They just see the the TV side of the show and assume that's
really happening. I really get annoyed during Big Brother because they trust the editing of the show but oblivious of the live feeds and what's really
happening. It gets on my nerves talking to them about reality shows since they seem absolutely clueless about them.

My uncle is in his mid-60s and has watched every season. He wanted Amanda to win also. He despised Natalie because he thought that she was too cutthroat and
deceptive (ETA: although he definitely couldn't have named her up until Jason's boot episode). He thought Cirie was Sherea right up until the finale
(oops), and he did not like Parvati. He thought Yau-Man was the best player, and he was a fan of James and wanted him to go far (I guess this is pretty typical
considering James won both fan votes, although I never thought he was anything special -- especially this season). In general, my uncle always says that he
wants them to get rid of Exile Island and the hidden Immunity Idols and go back to the original format, although he doesn't mind them having more than 16
castaways. He definitely gives no thought to editing or anything like that, and he knows nothing of message boards or spoilers, so I'd definitely consider
him a casual fan. He just watches the show every week but his mind is definitely blurry on a lot of events.

My older sister is definitely a casual fan. Every Friday, when we see each other we talk about the show.
Her favorites are usually ones that most people fall for but everyone here hates them aka Ozzy and Rupert. |

I have tons of friends who are just casual fans. All of them hated it when ozzy was voted out. They tend to like the stronger more dominant types. I however,
convinced them to see how well of a strategic game that cirie is playing

It's real simple. Casual fans like penis > vagina. When all the penises are finally removed, they will root for the vagina that did the least amount of
work in removing the penises (Amanda)
Now, if a non-hunk of a penis (Cesternino, Fairplay, Todd) removes the big men (Rupert, James, etc.) then they will switch to who they see as the least bitchy female (Sandra, Denise) or any remaining big men (Matt from Amazon, etc.) |

I would've considered myself a casual fan pre-Micronesia. That could explain why I like Amanda/Ozzy too.
Like someone above said, people who are not following every move and minor nuances religiously wouldn't even care about what editing entails. Most casual watchers root for underdogs (Ozzy, CI) and like people who win challenges (Terri/Ozzy/Amanda/Yau) but that doesn't mean we do not appreciate strategy. Or do not see MediaWhores like Rupert when we see them on-screen. We just have less layers (and less time) to really have a multi-dimensional view of some of these players. Until I came to this board I really liked Cirie and wanted her or Amanda to win. The fanaticism and delusion of the fandom really impacts how I view the players now. I am not saying that fandom takes away from my viewing. Probably the other way around but at what cost? |

The casual fan's brain is one complicated and awkward mystery.

Is liking Amanda considered a casual fan thing? I don't consider myself a casual fan but I like Amanda despite her craptastic performance at speaking to
the jury.

I think it's because she was just on China and people remember her and wanted her to win this time around.

I dont know if I'd be called a "casual fan" or not but in my country (Ireland) survivor isnt really on tv, sure tg4 show it in Irish about 2
years after its aired in America and my house doesnt have cbs or any of the american channels. I enjoyed this season of survivor and I just want to know, which
of the contestants would be liked /disliked by sucks fans or "casual fans". For example I can tell Ozzy is pretty much hated here, yeah he's an
arogant bollix but he's a good contestant in some ways. I dont like Amanda cos she's boring and Parvati cos I didnt really see her as the mastermind
type figure she was made out to be this season (she got alot of credit for some of Ciries moves) I saw her as a sort of coat-tail rider. Eliza's good craic
and her comentary is pretty amusing, as is Penner's. I liked Erik, prob the best of the "fans", too bad he was very bad at the social aspect of
the game. The whole issue with numbers of people on survivor isn't that big of an issue, put it this way though, the more people the longer the series. I
wouldnt say survivor is a sporting event though

personality and how he treated Ian at the end of it. Not that I was a big fan of Ian either after he quit so he could be forgiven.

Yeah, I see what you mean, but I give him the benifit of the doubt because he seems to be good friends with Ian off the show, so his emotional manipulation was
just another great move imo.

I presume this means "Unless you follow message boards of some kind fanatically", because Sucks, while the best-known, is far from the only message board devoted to Survivor (though the most famous), and there ARE plenty of astute, rabid fans who aren't here, who do notice things like editing, etc. |

I mean if you didn't notice Earl's 3 huge helicopter shots and didn't think he'd win, then you're either blind or retarded.
