Hey... I'm looking to get a used VW beetle tomorrow from a dealership. What should I expect? Cause I have no clue and I'm kind of freaked out

Wheels, Doors, and an engine, usually. Perhaps a CD player.

Expect it to be worth next to nothing in 4 years. You shouldn't buy it in the spring you should buy it in the fall. The new car smell lasts longer in
cold weather.

Expect to lose a couple thou in depreciation as you slide off the lot. Hope the new car smell was worth it.

all i can say is do your research before you even go there. know what you want and the max you are willing to pay. don't play the game where they salesman
says "i have to talk to the mananger". i have walked out of many dealerships only to have them come chasing out after me ready to make a deal!
of course, you could/should have your financing in place before you go there. |

I had one problem with mine- at 3 yrs. gas gauge stopped showing me how much I had.
my mom has one, 4 yrs old, and it's gone to the dealer once, some kind of filter needed changing (the check engine light came on) always starts even in freezing weather, love the ride & pickup, no complaints at all. I only got rid of ours for more space, so we got a Jetta.

Used to sell cars (cringes from the onslaught). Do not get anything older than an 03. Bad bad problems with every trade in we received or that we tried to
sell. Huge issues.
If you are looking for an economy car, there are far better models out there that will get better mileage than the beetle. Expect about 3-4k markup on most used cars, even if the dealership tells you they do not carry that big of a markup. Normally if the car has been on their lot over 60 days, they will mark them down very low. Always ask how long the car has been on the lot. The longer there, the more it costs them, so they are gonna mark it down to get it out of there for the cost AND to get newer hotter inventory in. And yeah, never take the first pencil. If you have a trade, do not tell them about the trade til you have already gotten the lowest price they can give you without you killing them or yourself. They get ya on the trade ALWAYS. Hope that helps. |
