I can't imagine that Oceanic would pay the survivors each enough money for one of them to take controlling interest in a large corporation like Paik. I could see a few million being tossed their way, but Paik looks like it is worth at least a billion.

I always figured that Widmore owned a part of Oceanic anyways...why not? Certainly makes it easier for him to set up a fake crash, and to control the press releases from Oceanic.

Also makes sense why the payouts to the survivors were so high. Its definitely a pay off to keep them quiet and stick to the story.

We all know that Ben didnt want any of these people to leave the island...he's always said that...he knows they arent supposed to go. So that would leave me to believe that Widmore is behind getting these guys off and setting them up because he knows it will only mess things up for Ben and his side and change things so HE can get back in control of the island.

Which is part of the reason Jack realizes that they need to go back. Im sure his father explains things too him like he was doing Locke ;)

Yea, and it kind of out of character that Jack turns more like his dad off the island too...and how Hurly goes back to what he hated/feared most about himself...being crazy.

It really is starting to look like they had some of this shit mapped out from the beginning as they kept saying when people (myself included on occasion) accused them of making things up as they go along.

That's exactly why I think the guy is a red herring. They included that person to screw with our minds and throw us off track. It's kind of like the igloo painting that Hurley was doing when Charlie paid him a visit in the nuthouse. Folks was hyperanalyzing that picture, and trying to connect it to the two Portuguese guys in the listening station at the end of S2 as well as the Dharma polar bears. Turns out Darlton just let Jorge Garcia paint whatever came to his mind, and he intentionally dis something that would get everyone's attention.

The igloo painting Hurley was doing wound up being just that.

From what I can tell on the web the normal crew complement on a C-130 is 4 (two pilots, one flight engineer, and one loadmaster)
to 9 people. The newest C-130J version is snazzed up with modern digital equipment and requires only two but I assume that means just a pilot and co-pilot, dispensing with the flight engineer and/or navigator, but I doubt those would have filtered down to the Coast Guard yet since they most likely get Air Force hand-me-downs. And doesn't load master sound kind of dirty?

This week's TV Guide has a tentative timeline of the flashforwards (Fall '05, etc..)
There is a Pre-Island/Post-Island snippet on each of the O6
The toddler Aaron was actually one of the newborns they used when Clair 1st gave birth -- pretty neat, huh?

Other stuff I remember from it....
Sun believes Jin is dead (she was not 'acting' @ the grave). But of course it's left open in the article that it doesn't mean he really is dead.
Sayid & Keamy have one rockin' fight before Sayid gets off the island.
Kate & Sawyer share a farewell kiss -- supposedly way steamier than the 1st one.

I think most of the footage in that ad is from part two. I fully expect we'll get 20 new seconds of waves rolling or something. That said, I'll be watching.

Just rewatched it, and I caught something I missed before. According to the cover story, more than eight people got off the plane. Only eight made it to the island. Here's what Jack said at the press conference -- note the very last line:

MALE REPORTER #1: Dr. Shephard! Dr. Shephard! Can you tell us what it was like when the plane hit the ocean? Uh, how you survived.

(Camera shutters snapping)

JACK: Um...

(shutters continue snapping)

JACK: It--it all happened really fast. I remember the impact. I remember the--the plane filling up with water. A group of us got to the emergency door, and, um... got out before it went down.

MALE REPORTER #1: And those of you who survived--you swam to the island?

JACK: No. We had, uh, cushions. We had some life jackets. We were in the water for over a day before the current took us in. By then, there was only eight of us left.

I wonder if they aren't putting little cracks in the O6's cover story -- this, Aaron obviously being more than 5 weeks old, Sun giving birth to her husband's child 10 months after he died -- to have some outsider character figure out something's rotten in Denmark. For what reason I'm not sure, however.

You just reminded me of something interesting I heard on 'The Transmission' (great fan podcast). It concerns an alleged deleted scene, which may or may not be canon. I stole this post from LostPedia so I didn't have to type it out.

I just listened to the "Lost" podcast "The Transmission" and found out some interesting tidbits about some deleted scenes from this past week's episode. Now, these aren't spoilers because they are not canon and I don't think they will ever come up again. Or they deleted it because they want to change this information in a future episode. Now, all of these scenes were shot at the Coast Guard hangar in the O6 press conference scene.

Anyway, here they are:

The shocked faces of Sun's parents when they realized that their daughter knows English.
They also explained why the authorities were not waiting for Kate in Hawaii. In the second half of the Oceanic PR woman's line about Kate's legal matter being off the table, she continues to say that Oceanic has provided Kate with legal representation.
There is also a deleted scene where Jack explains that 8 of us survived and the other 2 died. Then, a reporter says don't you mean the other 3 since Aaron was not born yet? And Jack proceeds to name the 3 other survivors. They are Charlie Pace, Boone Carlisle and Libby. Jack explains that no one knew who Libby was because she hurt her head and she didn't even remember what her name was. Interestingly, her last name was never brought up in the scene.

Now, remember this is NOT canon and NOT spoilers. So, this could never be brought up again or changed in the future.

It's just interesting to hear what the writers were thinking, though.
