Unlike her first two CD's, I didn't buy My December and only downloaded (for free) 6 of the 13 songs (the other 7 totally sucked, including the leadoff would-be hit single whose title now mercifully escapes me). This is in sharp contrast to Jennifer Hudson's CD, which I had planned to get except that it's apparently been turned into a generic hip-hop piece of crap. I doubt if there's a huge crossover between Kelly's fans and David Cook's, but I agree with a previous post that as long as it's out in time for the christmas buyers, the exact date is unimportant. Re the gay "accusations" that Perez and Kellyhater brought out again: there's not a whole lot that's sadder than gay men "accusing" a women of being a lesbian. 1) Why do you give a shit? 2) Doesn't her being gay REINFORCE the idea that gayness is good? Yes, but apparently some gay men are SO misogynistic that the idea that ANYBODY would want to have sex with a women instead of a man overwhelms any other concerns. 3) Do you really think that her being gay matters much to most of her fans, or to most people at sucks? Kelly has ALWAYS given out a vaguely gay vibe, and with so many other gay singers in the first season, it's just seemed natural. You seem to think this is like Clay Aiken (very Christian, loves his mom, special ed teacher, next Barry Manilow, middle aged housewives loved him) being gay. It ain't.

The way Kelly walks, her generally low-maintainance clothing and hairstyle choices, and her lack of overtly heterosexual comments (virtually no "he's cute" type of things from her), reminds me of a lot of lesbians I know and make me think she MIGHT be gay or bi. As I also said, I really don't give a shit if she is or not, nor do I want to pigeonhole all gays. Gays run the gamut from people you can spot a mile away (Danny Noriega) to huh? types. Kelly is somewhere in the middle. I agree that first week sales are overrated as in indicator of final sales. Ruben and Taylor started out fine, but wound up selling something like 1/4 or 1/3 of their grand total on their first week. Carrie's Some Hearts did as well as Taylor's on the first week (about 275,000) but not amazingly well, and certainly nothing that would indicate she was about to begin a 70 week top 40 run and sell over 6 million CDs. Jordin's first week total was awful (126,000) but she's sold over 700,000 since then.

Posts: 544 (08/30/08 9:54 AM) Registered User More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I thought I would look here since I've been following what's going on with Kelly's CD since I'm a huge Ryan T. fan..and a couple of things, yeah ITA first week sales mean very little but about Cookie's sales, he actually sold over 800,00 and is now the 3rd highest seller in terms of shitty coronation songs. I don't think it's fair to compare his numbers with an actual debut album song with Chris Brown on it that went on to be a massive radio hit.. That said I generally hate overall when they release two Idols in one day. They did that with Fantasia and Taylor (his debut and her sophomore) and its hard to predict who will do better. I would have never expected Chris to outsell Taylor in his first week. I think if that new rumored date is true it's probably better not because of any other Idol doing better, but November is swamped with huge releases and she might get better buzz being away from the ones like U2, Beyonce, etc. Really excited about the stuff with Ryan though!

When she accepted her people's choice she said the guy who presented it made her more nervous cuz he was really cute (the guy from Sweet Home Alabama yum). When she won Idol and they were focused on Justin she could be heard saying "sexy man, sexy man" Kelly might be bi I wouldn't know, but I have no doubt she likes men. Kelly's low maintanence style isn't an indication of sexual orientation cuz if it is, I'm a big ole lesbian too cuz I hate make-up and fancy clothes

More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I thought My December flopped because 1) the leadoff single was terrible; 2) the tour for it was misplanned for oversized venues and then wound up getting completely cancelled; 3) Kelly's public appearances at the time were unsettling because of her punked-out appearance and the strange weight gain in her arms and legs; 4) the songs were all depressing; 5) the production was cluttered and noisy--too many instruments were in the mix, like so much 90s rock; 6) the songs were too simular to each other. Basically, it's just not a very good album and the efforts to promote it backfired. There isn't a whole lot of mystery to why it failed, and certainly there's no need to invoke bizarre theories about exactly how gay Kelly is. If Kelly and Clive had made a compromise instead of publicly fighting, it probably would have sold twice as well as it did. Kelly should have sat down and listened to all the "professionally written" songs by Clive's usual gang of songwriting hacks (one of whom has just been added to Idol as a 4th judge), picked the 2 or 3 that she disliked the least, and added them to the album. At the very least it would have balanced things out a bit. Ilovegreeneyes, I'm sorry if I forgot about most of Kelly's positive comments about guys. I may be misremembering things somewhat because she won 6 years ago and there have been SO many sucksters trying to "prove" various Idols are gay (I still stand by my thinking that she might be).

Most people will say that the CD should've sold a whole lot more than it did had Clive not slammed it even before its release. As for Kelly listening to Clive.. it's hard to argue with you there, because had she included 2 or 3 songs, as you say, I'm sure Clive wouldn't have tried so hard to sabotage My December. All I know is that I really enjoy listening to MD. But that's just me. I've never been one to listen to something just because it's popular. AFAIK MD was never meant to be a big seller anyway.

It's hard to pinpoint everything because there was so much shit hitting the fan everywhere. The venues booked were way too big, should have probably stuck to the amphitheaters or a smidgen smaller like the Addicted Tour because those were usually located between 2 or more major cities. We actually don't know how well the venues actually sold, we just know it was underwhelming. But during the smaller tour, Yelly managed to sell 8500 tickets in New York and around 6500 in LA, so it's possible the previous arena bookings in those areas could have sold alright. I do think they should have picked One Minute as a lead single as far as commercial sales go. Clive can go fuck himself for all I care. The fat old prick chose "I Believe I Can Fly" for Katherine McTits, that pretty much throws any credibility he had away. Plus they chose a Lindsay Lohan song for her to sing on the album, I'd be pretty offended too to be covering songs by a red-headed binge drinking, crack whore.

So I guess most of what I know about it is from reading the news online. I guess we'll never know what exactly went on, but I agree that a lot went on that we don't know much about. I'll type below my short version of what I think happened. Clive refused to release the CD hoping to reach a compromise w/ Kelly. Consequently he sat on it for six months or so, leaving Kelly little to do, except try to get Clive to agree to release it, and perhaps even put back on the weight she had lost touring. It's a sure bet that her then management company, the Firm, figured heavily in the mix. I'm also thinking they were banking on MD being Breakaway II as a seller and that Clive would fully support it after the first single was officially released, hence their big plans. I guess they never checked Clive's track record. Clive must've told them when he finally agreed to release MD that if Kelly wanted to have an intimate CD that he'd treated as such by giving it limited support. Perhaps the Firm thought Clive wouldn't really want to cut his nose to spite his face. Then just after releasing the first single some genius spilled the beans about the in fighting that had been going on between Clive and the Clarkson camp, and also mentioned that Clive hated the CD and had trashed during a board meeting. If I recall, the guy who leaked the story was an RCA insider who appeared sympathetic to Kelly's cause. Kelly tried to quell these rumors as best she could but she didn't have the media savvy (or the proper guidance) to pull it off - I thought she made things worse by confirming she was at odds with her record company. Without the apparent support of her label, the radio soon lost interest in her single. From there things quickly spiraled out of control like a tornado, leaving MD in its wake.
