the interesting thing about Kelly is that she basically had to prove herself to everyone because most publications wrote her off early on as a fad, I believe Rolling Stone compared her to a pet rock. Most people assumed she'd have a very brief career, with her 15 minutes expiring at about 13.5 minutes if she was lucky and they were actually hoping for it too in fact.

It was only AFTER Kelly achieved the success she did that all the subsequent idol contestants were takin a little more seriously. No naysayers for Clay or Ruben, definetly none for Fantasia, fuck, Clive said he'd have signed her even without Idol, and Carrie probably had the easiest ride of all slipping right into Country without missing a beat.
