Thanks MPC. I kinda thought that might be the case based on the prelim numbers. I didn't know if they made some predictions last week on it. I think those
are pretty good numbers, but I'm sure there are some who will think they suck. I haven't yet watched her SNL performances, but I am looking forward to
watching them today. Go Yelly!! :)

Wow, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a good 75K below what My Disaster debuted with???

Dictatorship wrote: no..you just look all around the world for faults regarding Kelly, even though you "claim" to be such a big fan face it dictator, Carrie is always following right behind Kelly when it comes to how to mold her career in the music industry. and I say good for her... she's smart to do it....Kelly has managed to keep herself relevant for over 7 years now, when many of the critics predicted she'd be a flash in the pan and gone within a year of winning Idol. I think she'll come in just over 250K when all is said and done. She had some pretty great promo this week and every performance was really good. She has promo coming this week too with her appearance of Leno on 3/19, her next single IDNHU being shown on GMA 3/20/09 and then on Ellen 3/24/09. I think the label is positioning her to possibly stay on top of the charts for 2 or more weeks... |

Dictatorship wrote: wow...correct me if I'm wrong but didn't U2 debut with a good 400K fewer than their last album? I'll take 75K less in this climate any day of the week. This is what U2 numbers looked like at 36% reporting CHART DATE: 03/09/2009 LAST UPDATE: 03/09/2009 09:03:52 NOW IN: 36.20% LW TW artist / album label power index -- 1 U2 INTERSCOPE 99,510 NO LINE ON THE HORIZON so it stands to reason Kelly could actually have higher sales than initially predicted but even if she doesn't, so what. Breakaway debuted with 250K and went on to sell over 6 million copies...it's not where you start it's where you end up.... plus Kelly will have her second #1 album on the BB200 chart! it is good to see you being such a loyal Kelly supporter as usual dic |

Oh, envy, I was just wondering since My Disaster had awful reviews, yet it still managed to outsell Yelly's next comeback lol... U2's album was
released FIVE years after it's previous album. I'd say that around 04-05 was the last time that album sales really were "good."

Dictatorship wrote: um DICtarder My December had mixed reviews actually....not awful.....and she was coming off the Breakaway era so of course her sales were better not to mention sales in general weren't completely in the tank. It seems you take every fucking opportunity to criticize Kelly and put down her success and yet you CLAIM to be this big fan. Face it, you're a hater just like shitter, robbin, grumpy and foggy. You just think you're hiding it... you're not. really? 04/05 was the last time sales were "good"? hmmmmm I wonder how Taylor Swift has sold almost 3 million albums in less than 15 weeks then? The truth is, some artists can still sell just as well as before.... Kelly has NEVER been a big opening week artist.... so the sales for this era are right in line with all her previous releases and you trying to make it seem otherwise is pretty funny.... |

Detroit Free Press Review by BRIAN MCCOLLUM, March 15, 2009 Surely you didn't think that was it for Kelly Clarkson. Two years after the "American Idol" sweetheart endured her first significant career stumble, the 26-year-old starlet has stormed back with "All I Ever Wanted" (RCA Records), a self-assured album packed with rich pop pastries. After a botched swing at the tortured-artist thing on 2007's "My December," Clarkson has returned to her early winning ways. This is the Kelly Clarkson we remember from 2005, when even the most cynical "Idol" critics set their sneers aside for "Since U Been Gone," whose effervescent shimmer and undeniable hook made it the year's most irresistible hit. That shimmer -- and those hooks -- are slathered all over the new effort. The world is already well acquainted with the disc's opening track, the soaring "My Life Would Suck Without You," which lodged itself atop Billboard's Hot 100 immediately after release in January. It's a fitting leadoff to an album of unapologetically catchy fare. Despite the new-millennium trimmings, "All I Ever Wanted" is an old-school pop record, recalling an era when Top 40 was more than an endless churn of sound-alike dance-club pop. After calling the shots on "My December," Clarkson has wisely teamed with an assortment of savvy pop technicians, including industry A-listers like Sam Watters and One Republic's Ryan Tedder. There's a formula to all this, no doubt about it. But it's formula of the most seductive sort. The melodies are potent, the production is nimble and Clarkson's powerhouse voice is in peak form as she traipses through a host of styles: sleek girl-group pop ("I Want You"), Sarah McLachlan-esque balladry ("Already Gone") and assertive self-esteem rock ("I Do Not Hook Up"). Even on the album's weaker material, Clarkson's expressive voice carries the day, capably conveying emotion without letting vocal fireworks overwhelm the show. Bonus local note: The album closes with the gorgeous, elevating ballad "If No One Will Listen" by long-deserving Keri Noble, a Detroit singer-songwriter now based in Minneapolis. Her own new album, a lovely self-titled disc for Telarc Records, was released last month. |

Kelly Clarkson returns with more than we could have 'Wanted'
Friday, March 13, 2009 7:44 AM EDT By Patrick Ferrucci, Register Entertainment Editor Kelly Clarkson - "All I Ever Wanted" (RCA): The original American Idol Kelly Clarkson made headlines in 2007 when she very publicly told longtime label boss Clive Owen to mind his own business and stop trying to carefully craft her image. It was a big moment in the career of a performer who has so thoroughly stepped away from Simon Cowell and company's shadow. That record, "My December," was messy, goth-driven rock album with some great moments and a slew of missteps. "All I Ever Wanted," the 26-year-old Clarkson's fourth solo record, rights all the wrongs of the somewhat commercially disappointing "December" - it barely went platinum. It takes the anger and uniqueness of "December" and adds a little fun, a little of the brattiness that infuses the singular pop gem that was "Since U Been Gone," the singer's trademark hit from her 2004 sophomore disc "Breakaway." The 14-track collection opens with its lead single, the jagged and chugging "My Life Would Suck Without You," a sequel of sorts to "Since U Been Gone," which was also co-written by Britney Spears helmer Max Martin. The tune's stark verses pulsate with electronic percussion before the whole thing devolves into saccharine metal. That anthemic chorus will stick in your head for days on end. Over the course of the many songs, there are some missteps, most notably three of the four tunes co-written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder. The songwriter makes R&B-based rock tunes that not even the most accomplished of performers could pull off. Why the man has a career writing songs for people outside of his middling and unappetizing band is impossible to answer. But take out the four Tedder songs - only "Impossible" is even slightly listenable - and Clarkson would have an even better and more assured 10-song statement with "All I Wanted." As it is, the record is Clarkson's best, a sometimes disjointed and almost always enjoyable listen. "I Do Not Hook Up," co-written by Katy Perry and new "American Idol" co-host Kara DioGuardi, is a fiery and empowering anthem for young females; "I Want You" is sugary gold, a brash power pop anthem that could have been on a Fountains of Wayne disc; the sadly titled "Whyyawannabringmedown" dabbles in punk in a big way and even a pseudo ballad like "Long Shot," co-written by Perry and song doctor Glen Ballard, soars on the back of Clarkson's genuinely great voice. If only all "AI" contestants could do what Clarkson has accomplished and step away from the drab, bland and faceless dribble that so many release, the world would be a better place. http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2009/03/14/entertainment/doc49ba46f91d271841510406.txt |

At least Kelly's sales are consistent. I'll take numbers 200k - 300k in the first week for every album. A 400k drop for a band like U2 is startling
(not to diminish their first week sales last week, which are still quite excellent, but this is also an established band that has been around for a long time).
