They tape a dress rehearsal version right before the show. That's how they get the little recap montage at the end of the show when they remind us of
their respective phone numbers put together so quickly - it's actually clips from the dress rehearsal. We've seen contestants in the recap wearing
hats when they didn't sing the song onstage with a hat, etc. No biggie.
However, that would assume that Paula got there early enough to see the dress rehearsal, and somehow I doubt that.
