Posts: 357 (04/19/08 3:16 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	So for my first listing in Clubs, I wanted to do something related to TAR, be it my n favorite legs or n favorite tasks, but then I decided to rank the non-elimination legs because m.orphing is fierce. Anyways, all the US seasons are included except TAR8 because there were like 20 legs in a row where no one was eliminated and I can barely remember the second half of the season as it was (Suffice to say: Godlewski NEL was hilarious, Bransen NEL was hilarious, Weaver NEL is possibly the worst ever). Plus, to keep things colorful, I'm also including the TBCs (because they're really just NELs without penalties or pit stops) but not the final legs (because that should be a list in itself). Rankings are based on the quality of the leg/episode, the team not eliminated, and future effects for the race. The list will be coming out in random waves, so I'll finish it whenever the hell I feel like it eventually. Complete ranking of NELs (team saved in parentheses): 40. TAR 9 - Rio, Greece to Muscat, Oman (BJ/Tyler #1) 33. TAR 5 - Dubai, UAE to Mumbai, India (Brandon/Nicole) 32. TAR 1 - Beijing, China to Anchorage, Alaska (Joe/Bill #2) 31 (tie). TAR11 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Hong Kong Previously on The Amazing Race: Uchenna and Joyce were a month and a half behind, but because there wasn't any ridiculous bunching, they were eliminated even though interviews with Uchenna and Joyce would claim that they completed the leg and even though it would've been the perfect leg to have an NEL. In spite of this, Dustin and Kandice (understandably) yielded Eric and Danielle, who proceeded to bitch and moan about it. God damn this leg sucked ass. The tasks were lame and somewhat offensive (a Detour based on stereotypes, Traveloshitty product placement). The yield pontification was really not needed (especially by Charla and Mirna who had no part in it). Danny and Oswald taking the FF was bullshit. Not to mention, the entire episode was decided in the Kuala Lumpur airport, which meant that we knew that Eric and Danielle would be last at around 15 after (not to mention we knew they would be noneliminated at 15 after also). Given how A) they shouldn't have even been cast and B) the depressing end result, I can honestly say this was one of my least favorite legs ever. Coming up on The Amazing List: A last minute scheduling change increases the boredom tenfold of one leg, another leg happens to be sandwiched between two of the most memorable legs ever, and one country gets two listings within striking distance of each other. Speaking of seasons with alpha domination 39. TAR 4 - Mooloolaba, Australia to Cairns, Australia Previously on The Amazing Race: A bunch of alpha males remained as the race continued to Australia. The goats, due to bunching and wise FF strategery coasted into the F3 (and only one person died in the process). Reichen and Chip were thisclose to getting heaved like Heave, but credit card problems sent the clowns packing. Kelly and Jon continued to be the only watchable team left. Almost all of the F3 NELs will be coming up soon (there is one exception, and I think you know what it is), however this one is last because unlike al the others, this one wasn't aired in a two hour finale special (due to the blackout of the East Coast). This only helped to kill the anticipation for the finale as well as helped make this hour even more boring. I honestly don't remember much about it - there were horses and product-placed cameras maybe? I dunno. Even the prospect of one of Reichen/Chip seriously injuring themselves in the RB can't bring this episode closer to the top. The only thing saving it from last is the fact that Kelly/Jon owned. Coming up next: Can't you fucking read a few posts above?

The fact that everyone pretty much cheated at the Detour to some degree (esp. the Bowling Moms) left a sour note to me. Anyways... 38. TAR12 - Mumbai, India to Osaka, Japan Previously on The Amazing Race: TK/Rachel, with their cannabis-induced "mellowness" arrived in first, barely beating out a 69 year old and his grandson who had been carrying said 69 year old's bags a good 20,000 miles, including in one of the most densely populated cities in the world in one of the hottest months of the world. Kynt/Vyxsin totally fucked up the U-Turn and were sent home, to the joy of people (including myself) who were getting used to Nate/Jen's dysfunctionality. Honestly, this was a boring ass leg. Even though Nick/Don (and Nate/Jen) were on fire this leg, it still couldn't detract from the blandness caused by a simple leg design and TKR's airport bungle. We all knew what would happen 10 minutes in, and, unfortunately, we all could see right past the editing bullshit they tried in the last 10 minutes to know that it was an NEL. Had any other team been saved I doubt I would have a problem (even with all the bullshit bunching of the following leg). The fact that they were able to win after such an egregious fuck up left a bad taste in my mouth. Considering that either leg before or after this would've made better NELs, it just makes this one look worse in comparison. Coming up next: I can tell you that three continents are represented by the final 5. I can also tell you that 1 continent is represented by the next 3.

Posts: 364 (04/19/08 10:13 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I also respect your opinions (but I think I won't be m.orphing on this) but I think there were better Detours (in fact, the leg which is IMO the best structured leg in terms of tasks is in the top 5 - both of its Detours and RB were interesting, challenging, country-relevant, and had the opportunity (which was seized) for teams to pass each other). 37. TAR1 - Krabi, Thailand to Railay Beach, Thailand (no image, but just imagine the Guidos wet, tired, and relieved looking) Previously on The Amazing Race: One of the most epic races for the FF ever occurred between Guido and Momily. Guido won out, but almost lost because of their hubris/brokeness. They lucked out when Momily ran out of steam. Also, Rob/Brennan and Frank/Margarita accumulated a lead over Kevin/Drew (and obviously Guido). So, this leg was pretty, but also pretty boring. It's not really exciting to see people climb and shit to begin with, but when it makes up the entire leg, it kind of slows the season down (which it didn't need). Not to mention, it was fairly obvious that Guido would be last (and non-eliminated), which makes the whole damn episode pointless, except for exacerbating the time differential between the teams (which is one of the many reasons why TAR1 is amazing). Coming up next: Appearances will be made by at least one of the following teams: Guido, Hippies, Chris/Alex, Rayo, Uchenna/Joyce, Hayden/Aaron, Adam/Rebecca, Kami/Karli, Dustin/Kandice, Meredith/Gretchen (and yes, the italics are special, thx for asking).

TAR9 - Bangkok, Thailand to Tokyo, Japan \ Previously on The Amazing Race: Everyone hated Mojo. Mojo hated the Hippies. The Hippies, having taken a well-timed FF (especially considering there were only two in the entire race) took a one-way trip to the F3. Mojo, having fucked up the bus situation and the Detour choice, were eliminated, leaving the fierce yet usually incompetent RaYo and two annoying alpha male teams, one of whom would probably win barring a debilitating accident. In retrospect, TAR9 needed to have a 4 team finale (unlike TAR6, but that's for another entry coming soon), if only because the drama in Thailand was already great without an elimination but there...was no drama in this leg at all (given all the bunching that followed, this leg was pointless). There were...Sidekicks? Delivery? Rollercoasters? And all of this found in fucking Tokyo, where you could feasibly have 3 full legs with different tasks. It was just. so. booring. Points up because Tokyo is still the shit, even though it was a horribly-structured leg. 35. TAR6 - Sigriya, Sri Lanka to Shanghai, China (there was no picture of Adam/Rebecca checking in, so I couldn't pass up the chance to have 4 attractive people to balance out the fugness of the Hippies) Previously on The Amazing Race: A bunch 45 minutes in combined with their mistake at the RB sent Lori/Bolo packing and the number of palatable teams down to 1. Meanwhile, Adam and Rebecca retardedly yielded Freddy and Kendra. What's a good way to start a F4 leg? That's right, a flight everyone gets on arriving at, like, midnight? How to follow it? Bunching! Then what? A couple of tasks, one of which is a RB preceded by the final Yield. Next? A boring ass Detour where one option (because it's clearly better) is performed. And how do we end it? A non-elimination. Suffice to say, all the Yield hijinks and taxi drama couldn't stop this from being a boring mess, especially considering all the bunching of the following leg. It didn't help that Adam/Rebecca had finally gotten last in this leg. I honestly think that this leg would've been a better elimination leg than the one in Xi'an. Then, Hayden would've still had her lock meltdown, but without major consequence (and, you know, there would've been a 2/3rds chance of the Princess not winning). Sigh. Anyways, this leg was bad, though it's saved because IIRC Kris said "fucking" in one of the Insider Clips. Coming up next: The list travels to either Australia/NZ, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, or Europe.

In order of NEL - I liked South Africa, be patient, Rob's karmic smackdown comes a lot later, and be patient. EDIT: The majority of the hate came from the fact that the hippie NEL was depressing following the eliminations of the Nerds and Lake/Michelle; one of those legs should've been an NEL IMO. My Top 5 NELs: 5. Egypt (not for the Bowling Moms, but for Charla and Mirna of Arabia and the Kwins' idiocy) 4. Flo's Good Morning in Vietnam 3. Colin/Christie's meltdown 2. Hippies vs. Mojo + 4-way foot race 1. Flo's mountain bike tantrum <3 The Mooloolabah TAR4 NEL is still the least exciting episode ever, since the tasks sucked, the teams were boring and they all knew no-one was going to be eliminated. And it's still not the worst episode of the season given how unpleasant and downright shittily planned the France leg was. Where the hell is Finland? Do TBCs not count or something? Otherwise, the validity of this list deserves a serious >:-(

It's probably the second-worst leg ever, right after the bunch fest of the TAR7 finale (and possibly the giant office chair). Bad tasks + bad editing + bad racers = badness. In response to the other criticisms, allow me to list my next three listings. 31. (tie) TAR10 - Antananarivo, Madagascar to Helsinki, Finland / TAR7 - Khwai River, Botswana to Lucknow, India Previously on The Amazing Race: (both legs) A fairly colorful team left, leaving a bunch of bland people (TAR10) and romantic couples (TAR7). TPTB totally wanted to fuck with racers heads. So, both of these episodes have the same problems - fairly uninteresting tasks (mud vs. boxes; bike riding vs. hauling shit) made inconsequential by the TBC. Lack of airport drama. A vastly superior second leg. That's pretty much it for them. They get points because of Rob's craziness in the mine and Gretchen becoming an Indian rock star. 29. TAR7 - London, England to Montego Bay, Jamaica Previously on The Amazing Race: London saw the elimination of Meredith and Gretchen over Uchenna and Joyce, in spite of a strangely-used Yield and a hilarious Roadblock. Everyone that paid attention would know that there was still an NEL left, and those that didn't could see that with a two hour special, that there wasn't going to be just one leg. Much like the other F3 NELs, this one was kind of dull knowing that all the bunching of the final leg was near (and boy was there a lot). This one ranks higher then some of its kin because of the Limboblock and because I was one of the few people who enjoyed Ron and Kelly's disintegrating relationship. Yet, this isn't nearly as high as it could be because I always associate it with that shitty final leg (even though I liked Uchenna and Joyce). Coming up next: The next couple of legs will have resulted in the sparing of some beloved teams (relatively speaking).

The first Swiss leg in TAR3, and the Sydney leg in TAR2. The actual non-elimination in the end in those legs wasn't as surprising as in The Ox episode, or the second Swiss leg, but the episodes as a whole were better.
