Starrider - I don't think so - ESPN just mentioned something about Raymond Floyd's ball doing the same thing in 1986 and how you never see a ball stop there. It was just a freak thing. |

All true.
But 2 things. It's not that those ahead of Tiger have never won. Remember Zach Johnson and Mike Weir? It's numbers. There are 4. If it was 1 or 2, Tiger has a better chance to win. And that leads to 2nd point. Tiger has never won a major trailing after 3 rounds period. Tiger is the Micheal Jordan of golf. He is the best closer in golf. Jordan has never played a game 7 Finals. He wins 1st chance he gets and never gives anyone else a 2nd chance. Tiger's the same way. But until Tiger can win a major from behind like the other greats have, there's always going to be that little hedge there. |

I see your point, DeBrun. Tiger does have to win one from behind. No, wait. He doesn't. He's Tiger FREAKING Woods. :)
What gets me is the media types that jump on Tiger when he doesn't win, like when he didn't win 3 weeks ago, breaking the streak of 4 consecutive wins this season. "Has Tiger lost it?", "Is it over?", and my personal favorite...."Is Tiger Woods' year a failure because he didn't go undefeated?". In a sport where 3 wins and/or a Major victory gets you a nomination for Golfer of the Year, not winning ONE tournament out of 16 or 20 you enter makes your year a failure? He's not only held to simply a different standard, the standard he's held to is not even from the same planet. |

Immelman off to the right with his drive. Got to get up and down for a par on 1.
Snedeker long and right with his second shot on 1. Going to be an interesting day. |

Immelman misses his par putt, and will take a bogey.
Lead down to 5. |

It's the constant media masturbation over Tiger that turned me off him. Plus, nothing like rooting for the underdog.

IMMELMANOWNAGE!!!
He made it slightly more interesting than it needed to be by tossing one into the drink on 16, but when you have a 5 shot lead you can afford to do that once or twice. Tiger finishes runner-up in a major for a 5th time (and back-to-back years at Augusta). |

Tiger could well wind up with the most majors and Tour wins. But Phil aside, Tiger has no serious competition. He's on his own planet. Jack had Arnie, Lee, Tom, Johhny, Gary and so many greatplayers he went against day in and day out. IMHO, that also keeps Tiger from being ahead of Jack. |

That's probably true. It's almost impossible to compare players from different eras, though.
Jack was the best of his era. Tiger is the best of his era. I'm just glad that all this foolish talk about a Grand Slam has been put to rest. Absolutely ridiculous to even be talking about a Slam before the first major has even been played. Tiger himself admitted in an interview that he probably made a mistake by saying that a Grand Slam this year was within reason. Actually, I think today was the closest I've seen to Tiger choking in a major. Although I guess it wasn't technically a choke since he was never in the lead. But you know if it was Phil who missed 4 short putts and ended up losing the tournament by 3 shots, everyone would be saying he choked. So I don't think Tiger should get a free pass either. |

this was the most boring masters i've ever watched
immelman, flesch, and several others on the leaderboard have no personality and play a boring game the final round had almost no interesting shotmaking or drama. even the tough conditions didn't make for any interesting clusterfucks, just a bunch of rounds in the vicinity of par. a boring golfer won handily with a mediocre round because nobody else took a run. bleh. |

It was gold watching Woods miss all those putts. I never thought we'd see Tiger choke, but he coughed that one up.

In Tiger's defense, green is a crummy color for a jacket.

IMHO, that also keeps Tiger from being ahead of Jack. This is complete and utter bunk that has been repeated ad nausem for years as a talking point in an attempt to further try to explain Tiger's dominance. While i won't compare generations of golfers, the fact is he does have as much, if not more compettion than Jack did. The fact of the matter is both dominated the same way. The bare bones truth is they both did for no other reason than they were flat out better than everybody else. |

The windy conditions didn't allow anyone to make a serious run at the leader yesterday. It actually felt more like a U.S. Open, where players are hanging
on for dear life, hoping to make it into the clubhouse and post a number.
You've got to love ESPN though. On PTI today they said Tiger may have been "distracted" by all the Grand Slam talk (which Tiger started). When any other player loses a tournament they're "chokers". When Tiger loses, he's "distracted". On a side note...Immelman's wife is hot!

Tiger will be out 4-6 weeks as he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
He's probably going to miss the Players Championship in May, but is expected to play in the U.S. Open in June.

It's amazing how many short putts these guys missed. It's like missing a basketball foul shot.
