20 person seasons must have a merge at final 12. |

If they had only did that thing, Tracy and Ami are still in the game.

Since Jonathan and Kathy left the game. It's inevitable to have a merge at 10 again.

An earlier merge is a way to save some interesting people from being voted off pre-merge. Individual challenges are more interesting than team challenges
anyway.
It would be more interesting to see a double boot at merge. |

Couldn't agree more about having an early merge. Its the one twist I've always wanted to see that they've never done (well that, and a tribeless
season). The last couple of episodes before the merge, particularly in the 18-20 people seasons are always the worst episodes of the season, and merging early
would be a good way to fix it. C'mon, at least do it in one season!

Quiddity does have a point. In seasons with 18-20 people, the last pre-merge episode is usually pretty forgettable. As much as I like Guatemala, the F11
episode where Amy gets voted out is a perfect example of this. Even I can't remember everything that happened that episode.

I think the last pre-merge episodes in Cook Islands and Fiji were pretty memorable (especially when compared to those seasons' early episodes). The
mutiny, the bottle twist, and Rocky and Lisi's boots were all somewhat satisfying.

Unless it's a special circumstance like the fake merge in Thailand, the mutiny in CI, or Yau finding the idol in Fiji, any more than six pre-merge episodes
is a mistake. Delaying the far superior part of the season doesn't make any sense other than to the producers that want the alpha males to go far.
And even though it's completely unrelated, since it's been brought up, insert my inevitable "Final three sucks" complaint here. |

In most seasons, I prefer the pre-merge part of the season. For one thing, the entertainment over time diminishes as contestants get voted out. I generally will watch the early episodes of any season more than I watch the Finales. Secondly, most seasons such as Africa, Marquesas (after the power shift), Thailand, Guatemala, Panama etc. have stretches of 3 or 4 lackluster, predictable episodes in the early to middle post merger period where the group with numbers just picks off the outsiders who have no chance unless they win Individual Immunity. It took Survivor six seasons (thanks to the great Rob Cesternino) to finally liven things up during that period and thankfully Pearl Islands was even better (thanks to Fairplay and Sandra). But later seasons such as All Stars, Guatemala, Panama, Cook Islands were a return to the old paradigm |

I agree that the merge should come earlier in seasons with 20 people. Otherwise there are too many pre-merge boots and it puts weaker players and females at a
disadvantage. (Of course, this season isn't a very good example of that since it's been pretty female-dominated.)

Thailandsurvivor wrote: Ami stated in her interviews that Malakal did not intnetionally throw the immunity challenges. There is no comparison. There is nothing more predictable than contestants getting booted post-merge because of numbers. Production understood this and this is why they introduced new devices in the game like the Hidden Immunity Idol. The HII doesn't always work out but episode 10 of Fiji was one of the best post-merge episodes ever mainly because of the two HIIs. |

And why the hell would Cirie, Ozzy, and Amanda tell Ami that they're throwing challenges when she'd get booted over someone like Eric. The Joel boot was not thrown, but Chet was either getting taken out or leaving anyways leaving the other three with no chance at pulling off a coup. |
